Jackson and Pritchard

After watching Cousins, Gower and Stephens proves that perhaps Jackson and Pritchard are the problem and not the solution. Powell always picks them when he can and that proves the problem when trying to fit a system to suit them.
Jackson to be fair legs have gone at this level and Pritchard is just not good enough, lets hope Powell don't let himself down on Saturday and change the midfield cause for once this season they looked good.

  • I've been one of the people saying that our midfield is weaker when we're missing Jackson and Pritchard but am sorry to say that after last night they're gonna struggle to get back in that eleven

Johnnie Jackson is most certainly not "the problem". His goals have saved us more times than I care to count.

this and Pritchard was rated our best player for a few games before millwall. Some people only have a 1 or 2 game memory!

I think this is true but he has looked a bit leggy this year. No question as to his quality and effort.

    this

Jackson gets in our first 11 when fit for me, in place of Gower last night.

  • Would prefer Jackson to Gower any day of the week. Jackson's a leader and been one of the most consistent players over the last few years.

Of course we know all about Jacko and Pritch and what they bring.
But after last night would it be fair to drop any of the midfielders?!

Jackson and Pritchard were central to most of our successes last season. Neither of them are perfect and neither of them are Andy Reid but to suggest they are the problem is stupid.

Doubtful that Jackson and Pritchard are the problem.

But if there are better players in our team, play them.

I'd have Jackson instead of Gower in last nights formation to be honest, with Stephens swapping to the right hand side of the diamond.

Cousins does look to add a lot more than Pritchard, but Pritchard is in no way a problem. Has had some great games for us.

As I said elsewhere it's a long season, all players will play their part.

Just as the Leicester game didn't prove Gower and Sordell were the problem, last night doesn't prove Jackson and Pritchard are.

If Cousins, Stephens and Gower form a partnership which works then it's upto to Pritch and JJ to win their places back. Which is good news for us

I think if one of those 1,000,000 chances last night in the two multi shot moments had falled to Jackson, he would have buried it, and thats not me knocking any of the guys who were out there, its just that Jackson's composure and positioning are key.

I'm not sure Jackson has been fully fit for a long time.

Maybe, but quite liked the look of the relationship between Stephens and Wiggins last night.
  • Surely it's about getting the right mix. Gower and Hughes are similar, Jackson also lacks pace but can get on the end of crosses and scores goals. Stevens can be a class player on his day but can only flourish if the blend around him is correct. Pritchard is our best destroyer and workhorse. The thing we have been really lacking is a player who can carry the ball forward and attack the box. Cousins offers that and with Harriot also playing centrally, it would have to make us more dangerous and more creative. The two fixtures in my midfield would be Cousins and Pritchard.
  • If anyone of that midfield get dropped for either Jackson or Pritchrd they have the right to be truly pissed off, you take your chances as a footballer when they come and those boys took them, its down for them to give them up with poor performance not just step aside

If Jackson replaces anyone it'll be Harriott.

For me Harriott was playing a free-role behind the Strikers last night in almost a 4-3-1-2 formation - If that was the case I think that position would be perfect for Kermorgant or Jackson

If we are only playing 2 CMs in a classic 442 formation, it has to be Cousins and Stephens starting. With the narrower diamond formation, however, I could see Stevo moving to the right and Jacko coming in on the left.

Jackson for Gower .. Pritchard ? .. Wholehearted, covers every blade of grass attempting to win the ball and when he does ? .. promptly passes it back to the opposition .. a nice lad, great human being etc etc, but a weak link at the moment. He should go back to the bench and leave Cousins, Jackson, Stephens and Gower as the main contenders for the central midfield roles

I was extremely impressed with Cousins last night and I cant see how he can be dropped if he plays like that. It's always a bit difficult with youngsters though, they do tend to blow hot n cold, they need to be rested more than the older pro's (perhaps that's stating the obvious). I lost count of the amount of times he won the ball, gave it to a red shirt all the time, picked out some lovely passes and hit the woodwork.

I thought he (cousins) was the back of the diamond not the front (I could be wrong), for me the front of that formation is suited to Jackson which is where Callum Harriott was playing. You'd lose the pace of Harriott if you put Jackson in there but obviously you gain the experience and eye for a goal. Cameron Stewart looks as if he could play that role or on the flank of the diamond too.

I certainly don't think Jackson is past it or isn't good enough for this level. However having said that, there are weaknesses in his game that need covering namely his lack of pace, mostly he reads the game well enough to overcome that. His strength, eye for goal positional sense and leadership more than make up for any drawbacks and is a starter if fit in my book.

When it comes to Pritchard that's a different kettle of fish, Pritchard has the stamina to go on and on and on and on ...... but, does that make him good enough? On last nights showing not good enough to knock young Cousins out of the team.

I must say, as someone who's favourite player is Jackson - and has a massive soft spot for Pritch - I did ponder the same thing as I left yesterday.

It's a difficult decision as Jackson is very good, and we've relied upon his goals before - so personally I think he's critical at this time. As for Pritchard, he has an engine and he really tries... but I saw those same attributes in Cousins yesterday, and I also saw a better first touch and a lot of talent too.

Stephens is too inconsistent to say he'll be a starter every match though, let's see him perform to that level a few more times. Although I do feel sorry for Harriot having lost his place of late, I'm hoping he can win it back.

No, but we don't have the space to list them all ; - )

Take note that we have won one game this season and Pritchard and Jackson played. Pritchard was also CL MOTM.
