Cloughies Forest were promoted at the end of this season and won the Division 1 title the following year and then the European Cup two years running. The side we beat that night was largely the same side.
Charltons home record was Played 21 Won 14 drew 5 lost 2 For 52 Against 27. We finished 7th.

Only won 2 away that season , would've gone up otherwise with 'em .
Look at some of the names in that Forest side though
Not sure but this might be the game where Forest got in the Covered End and some headcase had an axe under his coat0 -

my first ever charlton game , very cold night ,this was the game that got me addickted to charlton.. the pain, the anguish , the joy...can't remember much about it at all but it must've been good for me to still be going 30 years later!!0

I remember getting chased up Charlton Church Lane after the match by this fella who wanted my silk scarf. I was 16 at the time.0

I used to love those Friday night games. That was the day after my 18th Birthday and I remember some dancing in the covered end that night too.0 -

If I remember rightly, Forest turned up early and took residence in the Covered End.0

Didn't go up that year because we sold Killer in the "window" after he had scored something like 18 goals - seem to remember we had the highest scoring atack and worst defence in those years0

Actually, he was rather well built and gave up when he reached the chippy. Come to think of it, the lure of pie and chips may have tempted him to give up the chase.0 -

I loved those Friday night games too. In fact I loved evening games full stop in the seventies. My memory is probably playing tricks but we always seemed to win under the lights back then. Southampton 6-2 and Brighton 4-3 are two other games that come to mind.0 -

Agreed. If we'd kept Killer we would have gone up I reckon.
I do wonder how good old Les Berry and "Farmer" Giles would have coped in division one though?!0 -
beating luton town 4-3(fri) colchester 4-1,halifax 5-2, i loved night games, well exciting, meet in the waterman's arms then quick walk to the covered end.0

I was convinced until recently that Steve Gritt scored a belter right at the death of that 6-2 game. It wasn't until I spoke to him a couple of months back and mentioned it that he put me right and told me it was in fact in the 5-2 win against Orient!0 -
I'm sure the Forest fans smashed up The Bugle before the game.0

Forest fans overturned two cars in Floyd Road...it was just another one of those nights similiar to the Southampton game...a lot of twoing and throwing (quite literally). Great game of football in between.0

I was there - 11 years old right down the front in the covered end with my Dad.
I can distinctly remember there was trouble but, strange as it may sound, because it was further back in the stand I didn't feel scared!
That was some Forest team - what a result for us.
Loved those Friday night games.

Clough and Taylor obviously thought the dugout was manky, and they sat on the touchline together, arms folded, on what looked like two kitchen chairs. McAuley scored direct from a corner.0

Back then we were like Barcelona in home games and the current Villa side on our travels.

Bloody hell, look at that Forest team!
Two years later Anderson, Clark, McGovern, Lloyd, Bowyer, O'Neil, Woodcock and Robertson were still playing for them as they won the European Cup - we will never see the like of it again.
Another year on Anderson, McGovern, Lloyd, Bowyer, O'Neil and Robertson all played again as they won the bloody thing again.
