"Henry Henry Irving"First sung early 70s after 4-1 away win at qpr near statue of HI next to national portrait gallery trafalgar square before getting on train from charingx1

Second this. Often find myself singing it for no particular reason.johnny73 said:I don't care where vfr came from (although the fact I love a lot of wings stuff helps) we made it our own. I love it!

Oh no it wasnt! Was 1969 and Chrissy Barber started it, but it was always tradition to stop and worship at the statue when on a West End "Rent-a-riot" night out.timken said:"Henry Henry Irving"First sung early 70s after 4-1 away win at qpr near statue of HI next to national portrait gallery trafalgar square before getting on train from charingx

This came up from the Supporters Trust. Got me thinking:Why not get a local artist in and record Valley Floyd Road (and it'll have to be VFR not MoK).🤔Sandgaard's idea about playing it was a good one, but play it (as you say) right before kick off (to fire the players up and engage the fans) not when they come out.
Thoughts?1 -

Goodbye Horse?2

Those Forest videos make me cringe - didn’t they do one with a crying Japanese bloke too?1
-
With some help from Olly Groome, I got the club to play our version of it (recorded in the Prem days) on the PA before kick-off a few years ago, but because the speaker system was so bad in the Covered End nobody really clocked it and it was ignored.
Would love to see us try again – maybe our only hope of everyone singing it at a normal, slower speed, because the young bucks have effectively killed it as an anthem with their 100mph version. Forest sing it brilliantly but as far as I know they don't have the extra verse which gives ours the edge.
I'm going to message Lewis Catt or someone about this now you know, see if we can have another crack.3 -
It’s sung so fast at the valley, forest sing it so much better than we do6

Yeah, it was atrocious.Callumcafc said:Those Forest videos make me cringe - didn’t they do one with a crying Japanese bloke too?0 -
Get Simon Rattle down every home game, slow it up a bit?Todds_right_hook said:It’s sung so fast at the valley, forest sing it so much better than we do2 -
Would love for it to be sung before every game, just needs to be a slower pace2

During the Premier League days, there was a version performed by Claus Jenson.JustFloydRoad said:

The mist is far more likely to roll in from the Thames at that stadium than ours!Bexleyheath_Addick said:4 -

City Ground
Oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground
Far have I travelled and much have I seen
Goodison, Anfield are places I've been
Maine Road, Old Trafford still echo to the sound
Of the boys in the red from the City Ground
City Ground
Oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground
Passing the leather like Clougie's great men
Please take us back to the days I knew then
Games when we sang in the Nottingham choir
When we thrashed the sheep from Derbyshire
City Ground
Oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground
Smiles in the sunshine, Football like champagne
Still take me back to where my memories remain
Flickering embers growing higher and higher
And a new squad of players for us to inspire
City Ground
Oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground

Surely Forest wouldn’t be playing in red at Old Trafford?MrOneLung said:Neil_Heaney said:With some help from Olly Groome, I got the club to play our version of it (recorded in the Prem days) on the PA before kick-off a few years ago, but because the speaker system was so bad in the Covered End nobody really clocked it and it was ignored.

I thought it was a good idea of Sandgaard to try and get it playing right before kick off that one time he tried it. The trouble was it took everybody by surprise so it was never going to have the impact it could potentially have. Should work with a bit of organisation to it.JustFloydRoad said:

No no and no.
Club orchestrated singing is palace like nonsense. Arsenal with their dirge about north London, Southampton, Forest etc wtc Hate it.
We have RRR which is brilliant, but not there to be sung. Let’s leave as is please.

I still have the CD somewhere...Would be great to have it played right before kick off, I guess to queue the crowd taking over/singing - no real atmosphere starter/ignition before KO at the moment so would work well!Think they used to play it before KO in the 2012 season when we won the league - but whoever has the rights to the song blocked the club from using it under Duchatelet in protest!1 -
Agreed, and comparing the atmosphere at the City ground, with Forest having a unexpectedly brilliant season in the Premier League with a genuine chance of Champions League football, and us in the 3rd tier, is hardly a fair one.SporadicAddick said:No no and no.

Let’s leave as is please.Unless I’ve missed it, I don’t think anyone is suggesting ‘orchestrated’ singing at all!Feels to me that it’s more playing an Atmosphere building song/getting a chant going, as opposed to the sterile stuff you see at palace/BPL…
unfortunately the atmosphere between RRR and kickoff is piss poor, and usually no real build up4
