And all you lads and lasses
    With all your smiling faces
All go down the Covered End
    To see the Charlton ACES!

    (alternative last line, circa 1970:)
To see the boots and BRACES!

    The Charlton Covered End.

(To the tune of Lee Marvin's 'Wandering Star' from the film 'Paint your Wagon')

"Bellotti's not Bonnetti, we can tell, tell, tell."

Dear old Derek Bellotti. He tried hard, a bit error prone - but not exactly the most legendary keeper in Charlton's history.

Just been reading a football book from a few years ago (You're not singing anymore), and it highlights this song for Charlton ... which we used to sing a lot more often, years back. Below is the actual quote from the book:

"On the subject of being on the travelling road with Charlton's vast army of supporters, the red and white hordes can claim a degree of notoriety for being the only terrace choir in football history to have made a chant out of 1960's hit 'Riders in the Sky' - originally by The Ramrods but made famous by The Shadows. Reliable sources have intimated that the shouty bit, Yippee-yi-ay; yippee-yi-oh, is regularly revived up and down the country, with no other lyrics being attached - unique and decidely strange!"
  • don't villa have some strange brummie version of yippppie iii ayyyy, yippppie iii ohhhh

Just when we finally thought we had a unique song and you have to go and spoil it :-(
