Just watched all of that. Normally “old” football looks absolutely atrocious by today’s standards, but we played some decent stuff in those highlights.
  • As we were leaving the ground a Birmingham steward shouted 'run for your lives'. In all honesty, I can't recall a nastier atmosphere at any game than that generated by the Leeds fans. I have held a strong dislike for the club ever since.
We got chased by dirty Leeds and there was a copper standing near our car. As soon as he saw what was happening he disappeared! We literally scrambled away as one swung his leg to boot the car.
  • Fortunately I could run in those days. My knees werent knackered!

Think the fans who went to Birmingham should also be paraded - wonder how many of us are left or could prove we were there

And Elland Road blimy that was scary.
I was at both but somehow not at the home game. Was that a Sat afternoon ko  ?  I have memories of being out with then girlfriend & some work colleagues. Memory a bit hazy 38 years ago !
The 1st leg was a Sat 3pm Kick Off
  • Stupid planning it for 7.15pm.
I'll be surprised if there's 5,000 in their seats by then.
7.30pm earliest would have been more sensible and encourage fans to be in by then.
Depends what else they are planning if anything?
My thinking too - this may be the warm up act. Not that I'm in any way In The Know.

Great to see this era remembered, often feels the forgotten period by the club.

Agree it would be better to be nearer to kick off, but I will now ne in the ground in time for this

Was there and at Elland Road, couldn't prove it though if I ever needed to.
  • Flew back from Yugoslavia the day of the home leg and couldn’t get to the game.
Went to Elland road and St Andrews matches.
Always remember some Birmingham fans drinking outside a pub and applauded our coaches as they drove past after the match.

Still makes me laugh to hear the obvious disappointment in John Helm’s voice. 😎

Got a sneak preview of the running order.

    Light show
    Kiss cam
Re-enacted sword fight with the Addick sword victorious
Jamie Cullen singing a jazz version of VFR
Choreographed Mexican Wave conducted by special guest Sergio Perez
Prodigy starting an actual pitch side fire
Artistic but dramatic fly past from Woolwich Pigeon and friends

Do you know what time Jamie Cullen is due to perform please?

... so that we can get into the ground after he's done.

    7.17.

Have fed back I can’t realistically see Colin Walsh completing his lap of honour in two minutes, but I don’t think they’re listening 🤷‍♂️
  • Feels too early to be effective
I'm assuming there'll be not enough useful stewards at turnstiles, bag-check delays, lots of people including me faffing around trying to scan in - so me and the boy were already aiming to get in an hour early anyway - hopefully a good few others have the same idea! Especially now the '87 boys are making an appearance.

Full game is also on the museum site

I never understand why they do these sort of presentations to the crowd when most people aren't there. Indeed the whole point of the Fanzone and the Fan's Bar is to get people to arrive early but NOT go to their seat.
Think this time the idea is to get you to your seat, especially with the fan zone and fans bar closing only 15 mins after
It's an 8pm kickoff, why would they close those areas 30 minutes before kickoff?

Good idea, they can use me as a  ball boy after.

To get you in your seat. Clearly they lack faith in the turnstiles/stewards working efficiently

I see that they'll be opening the Fanzone and the bars at 4pm. I guess they're hoping a lot of people will be "working from home" on Thursday...

To alleviate the queues before KO.

Glad the pigeons haven’t been dumped over the last few years they’ve been one of the highlights of my day. Usually they camped in the opposition box had to shake things up this year
  • Could always roll out Johnny Fortune - seeing as it will be 20 years to the day, since his late header.

Elland Road was scary indeed, them trying to turn the bus back to the station, literally, was a bit dangerous. At least at St Andrews Birmingham kindly turned up to distract the Leeds fans from us

Don’t the external bars close at 2.30 on Saturdays? Thought that was a licensing requirement.

    Is it really?! 😯

Bugger me, where has the time gone?
