I would like us to sign Joe Bennett if it isn't too expensive. I was impressed with him yesterday and he certainly has the experience we need.

In squad terms a second LWB is a useful but not essential addition. He would be known to Nathan having played at Brighton , so I would hope he would be a good influence in the dressing room.

I definitely think he would improve the squad.
To me, we still feel a bit light at wing backs on both sides. Small was both first choice on the right and backup on the left, plus our back up on the right (Watson) also left this summer.

I’m confident Edwards is going to handle to step up but aside from him we have Apter who is very attacking and may not play wing back, Bell who was described by Jones himself as a left centre back, Ramsay who didn’t shine in that role last season in the way he did on the right of a back three, JRC who I’m pretty sure is going to be part of our first choice centre midfield, and then youngsters like Asimwe and Fullah who have bags of promise but probably aren’t quite ready yet. Unless I’m forgetting someone I think we could definitely do with at least another senior player who can play as a more conventional wing back with defensive responsibility. We have a few makeshift options but a lengthy injury to, say, Edwards could expose us a bit.
Seems Jones agrees with you as we had two trialists on Saturday, one a RWB and the other a LWB plus the Japanese player being linked.
The right sided trialist has been playing RCB rather than RWB but could probably cover there in a pinch. Think JRC is the RWB back up though
Could it be that Jones wants to test Dexter out at RCB? As he knows the quality is there for RWB. Thoughts???
Watching Dexter at Cambridge yesterday I’d say he’s nowhere near good enough for The Championship.
    Who is Dexter  ?

    Helpful 🙄
  • I have a feeling that Jones will start with some loyalty with Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey, Edward’s, Coventry and Godden (if he’s available). By Christmas I think it’ll look quite different. Jones singled out Bell for special comment regarding his quality and how he knows what the system is. I think Bell will soon be a fixture.
In the friendlies so far Bell has been my standout player his balls down the channels have been superb and he has looked very calm in defence. Watch him drop a ricket against Watford now lol

Lembikisa, Jamaican RWB on trial from Wolves, played RCB in the last couple of friendlies.
  • The signing that’s seemingly going under the comments radar so far is Burke. What’s the lowdown on him at this point ?
  • Alfie Doughty off to Millwall reports suggest … having medical tomorrow

    His dream move.

Didn't we use to call Doughty, 'Alfie Spanner' ?

Only 477 pages to catch up on, Golfie.

Won't take you long to find out that Dexter Limpbiscuit from Wolves,
    was A Trialist A yesterday.

Young Jamaican international 29 caps, shares a bedroom with Karoy Anderson 😉
  • It's a nice problem to have, as yes you want a strong bench,  but I'm struggling to work out where Knibbs fits in. And where that leaves Carey if Knibbs is a number 10, never mind Berry.
We already have TC and Tanto as the wide left attacker, and have enough central strikers.
We won't be seeing much of Berry
  • I think we will start with three up top, oloafe and Kelman wide of Leaburn, with Edwards and Apter as wingbacks and Coventry with docherty/Rankin-Costello in CM. Looks pretty potent and plenty of options off the bench with Godden, TC and Carey.

Very excited to see how the team plays and gels.

    COYR
Way too attacking. We will get turned over with a two man midfield.

2 sitters and 5 defenders , with three hardworking forwards isn’t an overly attacking formation .

Edit - admittedly I wouldn’t have Apter as a wing back in that system- he’d be one of the 3 forwards.

I think someone said on the match thread for the latest friendly that there is a rumour he's injured. Not sure if that's true but either way with his injury record he's probably the Chuks of defenders - very handy to have when he is actually fit but far too injury prone to make much of a plan for.

Bell was a stand out player for me at Cambridge. Very assured.
    Agreed .

We would need 2 wingbacks  who can defend, as with Edwards and Small last season. We would also need a 10 behind the front two, not three up front. Apter would play the TC role as a winger/forward with one of Leaburn/Tanto/ Kelman up front.
I suspect there are questions marks over Leaburn given his injury record, hence what appears an overabundance of strikers (and Godden, for age reasons)

    Why does it need a 10 ?

    Kaminksi

    Ramsay/ Burke, Jones , Gillesphey

    New/ Ramsay, JFC, Coventry, Edwards

    Apter, Kellman, Alaofe/ Campbell

    When did Knibbs Sign 🤔
  • Wouldn’t be surprised with Doughty joining Millwall, all his family are Wall.
    Please never say ‘wall’ again.
Damn... I hope my ... doesnt fall down in the wind... ;)

I know we’ve flirted with it this pre-season but I can’t see us going 3-4-2-1. I think that will be an option that is used this season, but Plan A will still be 3-5-2, with Apter out on the right in the Small role

I’d like to personally apologise to Linfieldos and the guy who leaked this on the other forum. I was wrong to doubt you.

They have been added to the ITK list.

I have not posted on here in the past and posted the info I had on the other forum because I knew how skeptical everyone would be. Kelman done, the Japanese player I was told about has now been cooled but Knibbs is still being worked on.

Also had Joe Bennett in for a look in training this past week. Not sure if his name turns up as a trialists today but was at SL for a couple of days.
Do you know if the Fukuda interest is dead or are we waiting until the January window for when his contract expires?

I think it’s cooled to the point of unlikely to happen. No idea if we’ll resurrect things in January

Posting without wading through the Dowie stuff so may have been mentioned, but Bolton are being linked with 'making enquiries' about Ahadme:

    https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/25343873.bolton-wanderers-closing-charlton-athletic-striker/
Sounds more promising than making enquiries - says a price has been agreed but personal terms a way off the moment.

Great to move him on permanently if we can.
If terms can’t be agreed we’d probably have to sweeten the deal wages wise. It happens but Ahadme has proved to be a very expensive mistake.

Apter is not a defender in any way. He will play last year's TC role
