The next time someone says 'we need to sign a target man' when we have Olaofe, Leaburn and Mbick on the staff, I will scream
Tanto's strength is in his running and pressing. Mbick is a kid who should be nowhere near starting for us. That leaves just Miles
We've lost Chuks, and a year ago NJ clearly signed Ahadme to play the target man role, so there's a definite vacancy in that position.
You say about M’bick being just a kid but if he’s good enough the age shouldn’t matter, same way we wouldn’t have a problem loaning a 19 year old from the prem, if him and Fuller keep going the way they are I think they’ll both be on the bench this season, As jones clearly likes them both a lot.

It’s a valid view - Olaofe’s strong, quick and hard working, but isn’t he more of a channel runner than a back to goal target man who’s good in the air?
Mbick’s still very raw and making an impact in the Championship this season should be a bonus rather than an expectation.
That leaves Leaburn who needs to prove he can get and stay fit, and improve his consistency - he’s shown he can hold up the ball well, but he’s not yet done it over a full season.
Both Kelman and Knibbs are 5 ft 9. I'd have thought we'd want more of a target man type of striker.
Knibbs is definitely taller than 5ft9, I think his height is incorrect on wiki, transfermarkt has him at 6ft1 which looks more accurate from when I have seen him play
It seems Wiki is wrong.🤣
Knibbs can play up front, but is another running and pressing type player, rather than a target man
Harvey Knibbs is someone again who drastically improves us, I just can't see us signing him unfortunately.
The very definition of a utility player, walks into our starting XI.
The frustrating thing is, if we were a better run club sooner, we could have picked him and Sam Smith up for free when it was obvious they were quality players. Reading got such a bargain picking them up on a free, and Lewis Wing, phenomenal business.
Wouldn’t surprise me if a target man type isn’t brought in on loan - from last season hylton and aneke have gone from the squad but a quality signing on a 3 /4 year deal would probably block the likes of leaburn and mbick
Some Charlton related transfer bits I've seen over the weekend.
- Apparently Everton have nabbed one our 16YO's - Reuben Gokah, not one I've heard but confirmed on The Athletic - Matt Penney has signed for Aldershot Town, being a season ticket holder, I'll report back on his progress, they seem very excited - Saw an account on IG saying Knibbs was interesting Oxford, Pompey and Sheff Utd. With the later preparing a £2.5m bid.
A friend who's also a little ITK also reported that we have good money to invest in forward but only if we believe it's someone they could trade up down the line.
Seems like we are willing to pay good 7 figure fees for players we think have potential to develop and sell on in future. It’s a good strategy because even if only one or two of these moves pay off then the fees we would sell them for at this level would probably pay for all of these types of signings we’ve made this summer. So if one of Carey, Olaofe and Apter do well at this level then they are probably £5m+ players and a sale would financially cover the signings of all 3 of them. So they are gambles worth taking
Expect us to continue with this kind of model where we add some experience on the cheap but then pay millions for players when we think they could be worth more in the future
Never saw Kelman as a Jones type. That said, he'd have a great mentor in Godden.
I'm a bit meh about it if I'm honest.
Agreed, looked a bit ordinary at Wembley, too.
That was credit to the amazing Cafc defence which shackled Both Kone and Kelman in the semi finals and final.
I judge forwards over a season not one match where Kelman managed 46 app which wasn't too shabby as he got battered by league 1 defenders yet still scored 23 goals and 5 assists in 24/25 in a bang average side which over achieved to get to Wembley.
With both Kelman and the impressive Galbraith gone, Orient will struggle to be in the top 12 this season.
The defenders only get harder to beat from here though…
That is a Shay Given and the forwards are more clinical so every defensive player has to 'up his game' including Ramsey who has been a revelation since coming in from the footballing hotbed of Harrogate in League 2 after not being wanted at 23 by any bigger teams until superb Scouting by CAFC. Kayne was so good in League 1 he could make a mistake and had the pace to rescue his own mistake which he did on numerous occasions.
Lloyd Jones said to Ramsey " You are supposed to tuck in more" a bit of banter after the Wembley victory but Jones and Gillesphey definitely enjoyed playing in a 3 because of the success it brought. We have competition for every shirt now and the higher demands on all the 16 players who take part on match days. Possibly a couple more new faces to make 9 in this window. I may be the only one but I don't see a traditional big number 9 target man coming in. if a 6ft 7in player like Miles can't play that role whenever he gets on the pitch and I mean the ball going in to his feet as much as his chest or head then something has gone wrong with his development which maybe because of the 4 big injuries in 3 seasons.

I agree, or I agree that the only man who knows the strength of our fire power is Nathan Jones, if he settles on what he's got then he has enough credit in the bank to carry it out. We all doubted the Alfie May move but ultimately Jones was proved right. There are a few imponderables this season, Leaburn getting a full pre-season, Kanu getting back to full fitness, just how good is Mbick, where does Olaofe fit in and will Tyreece Campbell push on ?
Wouldn’t surprise me if a target man type isn’t brought in on loan - from last season hylton and aneke have gone from the squad but a quality signing on a 3 /4 year deal would probably block the likes of leaburn and mbick
Or a shorter term signing older player. We lack Championship experience up front, other than Godden
Kelman is an interesting one, i'd be pretty surprised if we went in for in. He wouldn't be cheap, and i doubt QPR would sell to a rival anyway. I don't think it would be a guarantee Kelman would start for us anyway - can't see this one happening at all.
He’s not getting a PL move so unless he’s going abroad who else do QPR sell to other than a rival.

Michael Smith (the CAFC youth and lately Sheff Weds one) would tick both the championship experience and the big target man boxes. On a free too assuming he wants to move back down south.

Godden acted as the target man last year and did really well at it for his height and age but think we need a specialist in or coming into his prime as this is a key role and needs to be a mainstay if the team - an older, experienced short term deal might do it but I think some real quality on the fringes of a premier league team who needs game time would be better
Miles jogged around the pitch for a bit on Saturday without contributing much. It will be a very tall order to expect him to start playing 60 minutes in Championship football any time soon I think. Mbick is nowhere near ready. The only striker we have with a Championship record is Godden, who is coming to the end of his career Another striker must be on the cards

He's someone I've also suggested. A 2 year deal might suit both parties.

Could def do with that target man option

Or by car into Sparrows Lane?
