Not meant to be a glib comment but assuming Apter signs then the next two will probably define our season. We need a striker and a midfielder. If those two are even slightly wow I think it’ll be the best transfer window in all my time supporting Charlton.
    I'll take Leonard and DKD
The more he does stuff like this, the less chance.

  • In terms of outs it must be: Ahadme (Loan hopefully Perm), Asimwe (Loan), Rylah (Loan?), Kanu or Mbick (Loan), AMB (Loan or Perm), A Mitchell, T Taylor (Probably Jan due to injury).
Can see us keeping Asiimwe around. Know Ramsay and Costello can cover RWB but would be nice to have 2 players in their best position for every spot
  • It's quite exciting not knowing what your best 11 is.
Nigel Adkins didn't know his best 11, but for different reasons

That's pretty shocking from the goalkeeper tbf, falls where he is standing rather than jumping up into the corner.

I can only think of the Chris Powell league one window that’s been as good as this, if we bring in a few more it will be the best ( on paper ) that I can think of.
We haven’t seen any of them play yet .  I hope it’s as good as the JBG/ Buyens/ Bulot/ Vetokele / Joe Gomez being ready window .
And that window got absolutely slaughtered on here at the time, that’s why I said on paper. And that’s why I said on paper but to be fair we’ve seen them all play at some point over the last couple seasons.

Exactly, love the enthusiasm but 'best ever transfer window' is potentially a bit over the top !
that’s fair enough in your opinion but can you think of many better ? And also relative money spent ?
  • I'll be surprised if Leonard makes their matchday squad most weeks if he stays there though. Maybe a team higher up the Championship take a look, but at the same time he spent last season in League 1 so they'll still see it as a gamble.

If we actually show interest in him, I doubt he'll have many options that are decidedly better. Maybe a 1 year loan deal with an option to buy?

Yes, agree and surely how NJ is planning squad building.

Also, if for example say JRC is performing well and settled at CM..... then you don't want to pull him out of the midfield, unless to cover in an emergency.

It  might cover RWB but could disrupt our central midfield unit
  • I can't help wondering how many of the Play-Off Final team will be playing in the first eleven by the end of September.

Impossible to tell, but for the Watford game I expect 7 of them to start, and I reckon the 7 will be Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey, Edwards, Docherty, Coventry and Godden

Kaminski, Apter, Olaofe and an as yet unnamed player to also start

Lennie Lawrence pinching Wolves players to give us bitter sweet promotion. The only one we missed out on for some reason was Tim Flowers.

    Linfieldos at it again.

Absolutely agree. So excited to watch their relegation.

I have 20 quid on them to be relegated with the lowest ever Championship points total.

    In response to

Genuinely fear for Charlton next season - bought OK League One players to strengthen what was already an average League One side. See you next year boys.

Not very confident of their own promotion next year then (or maybe thats what they mean, we will both be in the champ)

Ramsay, Jones, Coventry, Edwards, Godden (though he will rotate with other forwards).

If he starts and maintains his form of the last third of last season, then Gillesphey will deserve to retain his place, but that is asking a lot.

We should see quite a bit of TC, but not as a regular starter.

Had to laugh at this comment from Blackpool fan on their forum

“Although Charlton have got no history and not even in recent times are they more successful than us they’ll have 20’000+ every week, will be paying Apter £10’000 a week and can give him immediate championship football.“
    Just seen that myself.

    That is absolute gold.

I’d say on paper it’s absolutely fine .  Some unproven talent, some slightly older players with fitness records that aren’t great.

"No history"...🤦‍♂️...Yeah, and we mustn't forget Blackpool reached the Premier league in 2010/11, and also not forget they lasted just the one season unlike our 7 seasons...

As the dad of a pretty talented academy keeper. I can assure you this goalkeeping malarkey it's not always as easy as it looks :)
If you're playing for Sevilla you shouldn't be letting those in. Not saying i'd save it!

I think Olaofe and TC will share one spot in the team, we will always have at least 1 of them on the pitch and both will probably play a part in every game

Think Olaofe starts the tougher games where we want someone to press and run in behind chasing balls over the top and into the channels. TC starts in games when we might get on the ball more and get the ball to him in good areas for him to work his magic. But every game will probably have 60ish minutes of one and then 30mins of the other

Yes, and perhaps we should all remember, that in NJ's mind the team is not so much about individual players - but about building a team 'greater than it's sum of parts'.

    That strategy worked for Curbs.

  • Salty seasiders
  • Can't see from Apter's history that he would have played with and therefore known Docherty before...? But Apter/Doc follow each other on Instagram...

It's not possible to see exactly when someone started following someone else, according to AI 'while Instagram doesn't display exact dates, the most recent followers are often listed near the top'.

Apter has 6,800 followers and Doc is 18th on the list when I open it, which suggests it's a fairly recent connection...

    Nice work detective
  • Docs in his D'ms I bet.

To be fair it was actually a pretty bad window because at the end of it we didn't have anywhere near enough players. Peeters was moaning about that before we even left August and you couldn't really blame him. We had two functional CBs who played until one became so bad we had to go out and drag Roger Johnson off the scrapheap, no suitable backup for Vetokele so when he got hurt it was Church, Tucudean, 17 year old Grant or Pigott, only Morgan Fox as backup to Wiggins, and immense, unending gratitude that Cousins, Gudmundsson and Buyens managed to play over 40 games each because there was hardly any cover for them. This season we look like we're adding quality on top of a good base. Even if you sign good players a window is only good if you have enough depth in the squad, as we found out when Igor got injured and we had to change our shape every week rather than rely on Spongefoot and nothing. We signed 11 players after that window closed because we were so far off having what we needed to see out a 46 game season.
