Clubs get paid if their players go to a World Cup…
We sign Fakuda, he hopefully earns a place in the Japan Side and we earn a bit of dosh.

Seeing as we supply Jamaica with half of their team, the cash will be rolling in should they qualify.

Have heard that we have shown interest in Hayden Roberts. Out of contract at end of season I think

Young LCB/LWB. Suggests Edwards injury could be long term if Roberts is a January target

Lockyer has left Luton with the all clear to play again. Wouldn’t expect him to come to us but we know Jones loves his ex Luton players

Weird timing as he can’t play for a league club until January

Interesting as I’m sure someone mentioned him on here in the summer.

Isn’t it the case his contract run out end of June but he’s been recovering with Luton?

You're right, no odd timing at all in that case

Because he was mentioned on here to a nice little discussion and I'm bored, Shane Duffy.

I don’t understand how we strengthen in the Jan window. Where are we weak ? We’re in the playoff zone after 12 games!

    James Bree on a permanent
    Proper cover for Edwards/Coventry
A Docherty type midfielder but is also able to play with the ball not just without
A TC type player with end Product
A proper all round big striker

Obviously a lot of transfers would be unrealistic due to the squad size and out of financial reach but there’s definite areas we can improve on if we really want to push on. It’s been a great start but if we’re not top of the table there’s always little areas where u can be better

Probably need some sort of backup for Coventry at the very least

Bree on a permanent, as long as we get that done I don’t mind if we do nothing else, put the whole remaining budget on him if it’s needed

Other than that, I think a central midfielder on loan would be good. We can then send Anderson to league 1 on loan as he’s not getting in the squad right now

Maybe a LWB but hopefully Edwards will be back then so we might be happy with what we have there with Jones liking a smaller squad

Hernandez could also earn a contract till the end of the season if he proves useful over the next 2 months

I think it will be a pretty quiet window, 2-3 incomings maximum. Maybe Fullah and Anderson out on loan and one of AMB/Mannion moving on

You can always strengthen and you always should. We don't have any cover for Coventry anyway, but if we get to January and it's looking very unlikely that we'll be anywhere near going down it might be nice to see us invest in a proper quality central midfielder to compete with Doc or Coventry. JRC doesn't seem to be getting near it and playing Knibbs just seemed to get less out of Carey deeper. A centre mid who can do the donkey work while also offering that bit more on the ball to seriously compete with what we currently have would be a good step forward

Bree and a CM would be my targets. Go and get Anderson a top end of L1 loan somewhere. Don't recall Mbick or Kanu, they need to be playing week in week out.

A striker who can get goals would be my hope.

3 signings, another defensive minded CM as foil for Coventry, either Bree on a permanent or if Southampton recall him and refuse to play ball, Fukuda in, and finally a target man striker, one who's big and strong but actually holds the ball up and is a monster in the air.
  • We absolutely can upgrade. We have a number of average to good players around the pitch who work well together and can execute NJs system. We don’t have any elite players with the only one being close to that is Lloyd Jones In terms of a talent, we are a mid to slightly below mid table squad.  If we found a player who could upgrade at lcb, lb, box to box midfielder or forward line,  we should.  No offense to the the Docs, Bell, MG, TC or Kelmans,  they have all brought something to the table but there clearly are better players

We have it in Costello .. and should have played Saturday in that role

Unless there any last min injuries that we need to bring a loan in to cover .. the only position that needs addressing will be Right Wing Back don’t see any other business being done …

For those looking for defensive midfield cover, will we realistically sign somebody better than JCR who will possibly play a similar number of minutes?

It's going to be a long season, and he will come into the fold.

I'd love to see us sign a proven left wing-back who can whip in a ball/set piece, similar to Bree. That leaves good competition with Bell, Macca, Edwards, and the plus one vying for two roles.

Maybe I'm being greedy after a near decade of seeing right-backs play at left-back for us! 😄

    Bamford on a free.

Aribo on loan if Southampton subside his wages.

    Sign Bree on a perm.

Keep Anderson and Fullah in the building.

The key signing for me is a quality central midfielder, where we are definitely light if NJ doesn't trust Rankin-Costello or Anderson to play there. Moving Carey back on Saturday took away his attacking threat, with Knibbs being a poor replacement in the No 10 role.

Someone who can challenge Doc and Coventry for the midfield 2 position, rather than just being a backup.

Unless they start firing surely a proven goal scorer is a priority.

I get the suggestion of a first choice CM, but I don’t expect a back up to come in - still feels too early to write off JRC or Anderson doing that job to me.

NJ had the difficult choice of who to play when he gave Coventry a rest. I wouldn’t read too much into it, I don’t see it as proof he doesn’t rate JRC or Anderson. It was only recently Apter didn’t even get off the bench.

We’ve got some really strong competition which has meant some players have barely played. For the same reason it’s also too early to say Knibbs won’t do well for us.

I laughed at the Aribo suggestion, presuming he was starting every game for Southampton.

Shocked to see he's not even been in the squad unless he's injured.

Aribo is completely frozen out. Still doesn't rate him , a move to Rangers on deadline day fell through.

Wages will be a huge stumbling block though.

I dont think there will be masses of business tbh. Go for Bree or another RWB if we cant get him. Maybe a LWB and backup for Cov.

Everywhere else we have numbers so the question becomes who is available that add more quality than we currently have. We may see a few signings in positions we dont on paper need but that add something above what we currently have.

Good place to be in really.

JRC has played SEVEN minutes in 12 league games, despite us being able to bring 5 subs from the bench, and him being able to play both in midfield or at right wingback. That doesn't look like someone NJ rates.
