Be nice to get that Spanish lad Pozo we played against today. A big upgrade from Docherty in that 8 position.
I’ve got a feeling Doc will prove to be a more effective championship player than league one this year.

Could be affected by a change in personnel around him, but that’s my hunch
He's a proper leader so there's much more to him than his footballing ability. He'll play a massive part for us this season.
Doc is captain and will be in the starting eleven v Watford …

Being Captain doesn’t automatically mean you start. You look in the past when Solly and Pearce were captains but weren’t regular starters. Docherty 100% has a place in this squad and will play his part but JRC will provide strong competition and has every chance of starting over doc come Watford

And that's when Solly at least transitioned into club captain instead of team captain once he was no longer a starter. Not sure if we've had a club captain since?

Solly should have been retired through injuries, big difference.

I see Wrexham lost in NZ 1 - 0 to Wellington Phoenix. Meaningless really but nice to see.
Dire match from Wrexham’s perspective. Phoenix very weak at the moment and the second half was their academy team. Highlight (and the only reason I watched the game) was Dobbo’s new barnet. A slicked back man pony tail with number one bottom half. Immense.

Wasn't Inniss club captain at one point? Connected to his charity/community work or something? I could be misremembering though.

Reading fans saying they think Knibbs is going Championship for 2.5m, wonder if it’s to us as Iv seen a few link him to us on here.

Blades. Makes sense linking up with his old manager, Knibbs was wishful thinking from people on here I think.

"If Sheffield United aren’t the Championship club with interest in Harvey Knibbs then we’d be very shocked.

Article states they expect that player will arrive by next weekend. #readingfc"

Wasn’t Knibbs just a joke because it was one of the few players @Henry Irving remembered playing well against us?

Pity to miss out on Knibbs. He is good with pens.

Harvey Knibbs is good but hes surely not top 6 or even top 2 championship quality. Some Reading fans wouldn’t even put him over wing as the best midfielder at the club. Feels like it’s a forced link due to Selles now being Sheffield united manager which is why we’re always linked with every player from Luton cause of Jones. Knibbs could not fit a Jones system more so hopefully someone we would be looking at

Not sure Doc will be more effective in the Championship, but I do kind of expect he will be similarly effective, compared to last season. By which I mean he will demonstrate leadership on the pitch, do a lot of unglamorous running, press well, and play with a tactical and positional discipline that NJ values highly.

Doubt we’re going to suddenly see more goals and assists from him but, as much as fans want to see that, it’s not the primary reason NJ has made him his captain and a near ever present up to now. His place in the team is not guaranteed and if JRC, or someone else, comes in and offers more then Doc will lose out but this idea he was some how an anchor holding the team back last season is nonsense.

Doc is the veteran prescence we need due to the rigors of the Championship. If he plays a ton, or just leads by example in the dressing room and training room, is irrelevant.

Not an actual rumour but if anyone here on CL has contacts at the club tell them about this kid.

I’m in Montreal with the family and thought I’d get myself along to a game. Best player in the pitch by a country mile (& wouldn’t look out of place in the Championship imho).

Only joined Montreal six months ago - they paid just the $5.6 million for him!

With how weirdly Montreal are run , he'll be at Bologna within a year. There is some fun talent in MLS but think none of it would be in our budget.

Believe so. It happens every window here. Someone likes a player and it turns into a rumour here with no substance.

I have a feeling it’ll be us that get Knibbs, seems the sort of range we’re spending and the profile we’ve been going for.

We've been chasing Knibbs all summer.

Will it happen?  Nothing is certain but the Apter deal shows £2.5m is not out of our price range.

As a goal scoring midfielder who can play upfront he fits NJ's model but for the same reasons Reading want to keep him and other clubs want him too.

    WIOTOS

In that case could he be the striker we’re after? If we see him as a midfielder that likely means one of him, JRC or Carey on the bench - not impossible, but when we hear we’re after midfielders I wonder if a defensive midfielder and a wing back is what’s actually meant by that, rather than another attacking midfielder.

Knibbs would be another interesting piece , probably competes with TC in a front 2 , could drop into a 10 in the 3421 shape or play as an out and out winger in a 343.

Would see it as a bit of a coup to get him too now Reading aren't desperate to sell.

Call me paranoid, but is it only me who is getting concerned regarding our leading scorer from last season, not in Slovenia, so not seen in the first two pre-season matches, where is he, as I said hopefully just me putting 2+2 together and getting 5.
Hopefully see him Wednesday or rumours could start to rear their ugly head, and not good ones...

He is in Slovenia, he has a minor calf strain and is following a separate training regime, as is Berry.
    Ok thanks, just me then..

Just repeating what Rich Cawley has already said, plus they are both in the training videos.

Which begs the question when our top scorer is out who is a better replacement an aneke type or someone who is a similar player to godden ? I'd say it's the latter someone who knows where the net is/ clinical and can take the pressure off godden this season.its fine to say share the goals about etc but without that proper threat it makes it way harder.

I would love us to bring someone like Kelman to bring that similar style of play to Godden. If some of our final business is a Knibbs type, Kelman and another left sided wing player, I would be happy!

If we brought in Kelman and Knibbs I’d be over the mood and would be a fantastic window.
