Peterborough United vs Charlton AthleticSaturday 22nd March 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off (Live on SkySports+)Referee: Scott TallisIntroductionIt certainly gets easier writing Match Previews when the team is doing well, and you don't feel like the harbinger of doom by reminding people that there is another upcoming game. Charlton hosted fellow Athletic side; Wigan last Saturday, and based off the display at the DW, it could have been a tough encounter, yet the Addicks handled it with ease. Now though are two games, back to back, that could be real banana skins for our aspirations of finishing in second. Not one Charlton fan thought we'd have our eyes on such lofty ambitions as we entered 2025.
The OppositionName: Peterborough United (18th) - Manager: Darren FergusonGround: London RoadPrevious League Result: Cambridge United 0-1 Peterborough UnitedNext up for the Addicks is a trip to Cambridgeshire with Peterborough United awaiting our arrival.
Of course its not been that long since we last played Peterborough, just over five weeks ago, and if there is one game that stands out in our recent run of form, it was our performance at the Valley, with the Addicks all but dominating play against Posh, add in frayed tempers with a Red Card, and a tight 2-1 score line, and it probably wasn't a fair reflection as Charlton overcame their poor form against Peterborough, recording our first League win against them since 2012
Frustratingly you have to go back fifteen years to find our last win at London Road, a 5-1 victory which would be a nice outcome, whilst our last double against our opponents this weekend came in that same season, we won 3-2 at the Valley in the reverse fixture in that particular season - So a draw could well be a reasonable expectation come 5pm, especially with returning top scorer: Kwame Poku back from injury, and with him and Ricky-Jade Jones in the side, our defence will have their work cut out come Saturday afternoon... Thankfully, Tayo Edun, who has been a consistent performer and thwarted Thierry Small at the Valley, will be suspended for this clash.
In terms of form over the last five games, and its the top two in the form table facing off against each other... Neither team has lost in this time period, whilst Peterborough have two draws, compared to Charlton's one. In terms of dropping two points, this is one of few places where Charlton can probably afford to it... A further three, and it further pressure on teams around us, what with fixtures elsewhere this coming weekend.
Charlton Team NewsAlready we've seen how much Peterborough's pace can cause our back line problems, what with the away side making a fast, but ineffective start at the Valley back in February - Its the ideal game to keep Kayne Ramsay at Right Centre-Back, whilst it might also be worth keeping the team largely the same from the one that we saw against Wigan last week, meaning that Thierry Small is then there to protect Macauley Gillesphey, who since Blackpool has been a different player to the one we've come to expect.
In terms of the Right Wing-Back slot, we could see Tennai Watson starting just his third game of the season, or we could see Tyreece Campbell in the unfamiliar role, which he's been able to fulfil when required at times. Of course if that happens, you'd expect to see Miles Leaburn starting up top with Matty Godden, yet could naturally be irrelevant if Josh Edwards is fit to return to the squad, having been forced off against Crawley Town recently.

Ramsay - Jones - Gillesphey
Campbell - Coventry - Docherty - Small

Leaburn - Godden
Substitutes Bench: Reid - McIntyre - Watson - Anderson - Gilbert - Ahadme - Hylton

I’m going by the way.
Peterborough have not had a good season, but they have good players who can hurt you, and appear to be on an upward trend.
Going to be a tough tough tough game. However I have faith that Jones will prepare the team as best as possible for it.
I don't recall beating Posh 3 2 to clinch automatic promotion though. They weren't in League One that season, I don't think. I presume it's 2011/12 you're referring to.

I don't know much about Kyprianou - is he a good player at this level?
play offs it is
3-2 Addicks.
COYA!
Pretty confident we will win this despite our recent performances against them.
We are in such a good place at the moment results wise and the confidence in the dressing room must be sky high.
With Peterborough missing two of their better players and not much to play for I'm expecting all 3 points to be coming back with us.
Safe travels to all those going, have a great day.
Charlton 3 Peterborough 1.
Hopefully Josh is back in the fold, scorers whoever it is that's fine, but can well see Godden opening the scoring and Macca getting one of his far post bullet headers as starters...COYR
I am happy for a 0-1 win, if my heart and bum will take the strain 😂👍
I was looking forward to seeing him play. He will definitely be playing in the Championship next season and is out of contract at the end of this season.
A defensive midfielder who will be missed.
Every little bit helps.
All in the eyes of the beholder, of course!
as you said all in the eye of the beholder etc but I thought he was defensively very poor.
