Can't get too down with that defeat, if we're honest many of us expected to lose and maybe by more than 1 goal. However TC looked knackered, they doubled up on Small and harried our defence from the off. They spent £30m I believe, with half of that going on 1 player, our squad doesn't even total that one (nasty, moaning bastard) player. We have been on a fantastic run and we are going to lose the odd game, so take today, move on and go again next Saturday. At least we have 7 days to rest and recuperate. Even on a off day, against the leaders, we only conceded 1 goal, we've come a long way since December. Next week we can start another run, the playoffs are still very much in our reach!
Birmingham will go up. However, it would never surprise me if May makes only the odd appearance, and is back playing in league one after the Jan transfer window.
I doubt he will make January - he'll be moved on at the end of this season.
Ah well. No disgrace today but feels a shame that we probably deserved a point in that damp squib of a match. Birmingham capitalised on one error and there were three shots on target that whole match, which is pretty bleak. They will rightly say they felt confident holding us at arm's length and we didn't have enough to break them down. Feels a lot like opposition teams must have felt in that Powell season. The Sheffield games in particular as well as some of the games towards the end of the season where we just nicked one goal and trusted that we could see it out for a just about deserved 3 points. Birmingham have that privilege and they took it. The good thing is the games they have coming up are against just about every team around us and we have to hope that they do the same job on them.
Main takeaway is that Alfie May has played against us three times this season and not looked like scoring even once. He can shithouse all he wants for the win he contributed 5 minutes to but in the end he couldn't lay a glove on a decent L1 defence and that's credit to our players. Doesn't bode well for his future in the Championship though, I hope he likes golf.
i was looking round my living room for the Christmas tree. I was sure I had time traveled back to December. It was pretty awful, littered with poor touches and individual mistakes. Please god its a one off.....
A team with better players than us played better than us and won. No shame in it, doesn’t really impact on our chances of the playoffs (in fact, oddly, they might even be enhanced in terms of GD as I’m sure Birmingham will beat lots of other teams by more than one goal, including our playoff hunting rivals).
Felt we were fairly fortunate to get in at just 1-0 down at half time, but we didn’t give them too many chances in the second half.
Not sure how much I enjoy these “big” away matches anymore.
They had the ref on strings: Ask for a foul, get a foul. Ask for a yellow, get a yellow... He'd have whipped out the oil if they'd asked him for a massage.
We might have stolen a draw with a little more composure in key areas but too many players had bad games. The midfield went missing, Small was kept quiet and TC has left a stink on the St Andrew's pitch that will have them spraying air freshener for the next few months.
When the team needed to find a way to calm down, Karoy and Kanu were the wrong subs. Kanu is not a L1 player at the moment, let alone going to create an impact against a Champ-level Brum defence. They brought frantic energy when we needed some composure.
Ramsay and Gillesphey probably the only players who stood up today. Leaburn also did well when he came on, and Gilbert should be starting over Berry 100%.

They will have to take a hit on his wages as nobody in league one will pay them and he is under contract.
Deserved win for Birmingham. Just felt a couple of players had off-days, Coventry and Berry in particular (but also down to Birmingham's players being generally better and well-organised) - but what was really frustrating for me was the fact that the ball never ever fell for us, we just needed that bit of luck.
We were beaten by the better side, though thoroughly dislikeable - that gormless punchable in-bred Stansfield and the cheating, equally punchable Laird in particular!
Chochrane was immense though I thought.
Surprised TC was not replaced.
Anyway, that's that, can see why Brum are where they are, onto the next one.
Oh, also Jay Stanfield looks like a right little wanker and I hope someone snaps him at some point.
Also I'm getting Lyle Taylor vibes from Alfie May, right twatty behaviour with the over the top celebrations after the throw in and general facial expressions.
We just seem to love signing players who lack a bit of class when they leave and play against us.
In fairness, don't suppose Alfie May feels any great love or warmth towards Jones after the way he treated him.
Whatever happened between him and Jones is between them two, he still came across muggy.
On reflection I'm a bit of a hypocrite cause I was taking the piss when he was being muggy towards Cheltenham fans after we played against them.

Depends if he wants to play or just see out his contract getting splinters on his arse.

Only if Birmingham are willing to pay the majority of his wages on behalf of the L1 team he goes to. He's on way too much money to move for a paycut
Well at least with Alfie acting the cock today, that will hopefully put the love affair to bed. Not a bad showing against a side who have no right being in this division with the players they assembled over the summer
We saw Bolton and Huddersfield win from losing positions today. It may just be a feeling, but do the teams surrounding us fare better than us in recovering points (especially wins) from a losing position in a game? I'm not focusing on this game in particular, just overall if there are any stattos out there having a quiet evening!
Saw Alfie May try to gee up the Birmingham crowd when he won a throw in. Is that what people are getting upset about? Unless I missed something else it was pretty mundane and hardly deserves the flak some are giving him.
I was speaking to my brother at half time and suggested that we had to make it bitty and ugly and look towards nicking a goal at the end. I think we did that ok in the second. We didn't nick the goal but the key word was always nick. They felt the need for shithousery with is a back handed compliment.
I know it doesn't happen but when a player drags an injured teammate onto the pitch to waste time, I think that should be a sending off for bringing the game into disrepute. It probably wouldn't have helped us as he is a good player and we will want him playing against Wycombe, Orient and Bolton!

You're not welcome back at the Valley May mate.
good
No too disheartening, Still think play offs are on.

Who remembers getting pumped 4, 5, 6 at the likes of Ipswich when they were at the top of this division?
We have come a long way in a year. Onwards and upwards.
"Alfie May when we were singing “he left cause your shit” lol 😂
Little twerp. Always thought Godden was miles better.
