The museum recently aquired this programme.

Any other contenders for most obscure game played at the Valley?

  • don't know if it count as obscure but once went to an engalnd vs Italy game at the Valley in the 90s, I was just a kid I cant remember what age group it was u21s or lower
  • Not football, but this must have been quite a different spectacle from 1948. Also a recent purchase.
    Is that 1948?

Thought the midget cars were earlier?
  • I remember the Unity Cup between Ireland, Jamaica and New Zealand...

    It was EFL u21 v Serie B U21, 1998
  • @Henry Irving The limited research I have done points to the series starting in late April 1948 and running for approx. 2 months. Whenever I have seen the programme up for sale on the internet, it always states 1948 but there is no date anywhere in the programme.

That makes sense I couldnt find any mention of it, i did wonder if id mixed it up for england vs france in 2000 u17s but was fairly certain it involved Italy, think it ended 0-0

It did end 0-0. Danny Mills was MOM and we signed him days later, Lisbie came on as a sub
  • The London Broncos seemed pretty obscure given that there was only ever about 50 other people there!

  • There's that YouTubers thing that's happened a few times in recent years. I have no understanding of what it is or who is playing, but apparently it sells out The Valley (which perhaps means it doesn't meat the "obscure" criteria.
  • More recent but quite obscure - Christchurch Ware FC Herts v Southborough Lane Baptist FC Kent - The National Christian Trophy 2011 Final

I went to a lot of Broncos games at The Valley and never saw crowd anything like that as low. When were these games with 50 people?

I went to a few Broncos games at Twickenham Stoop about 10 years ago, they would get around 1,500-2,000 at those games.
  • England v Northern Ireland Amateur international, 28/9/68

There’s some info on this link, also a game Charlton played against the British Olympic team and one against their triallists.

If it's the same Unity Cup that I went to, it was Ireland, Jamaica, and Nigeria...

The Nigeria supporters brought their own band.

Me too. Sat in the East, now Curbishley Stand, in the sun with a beer in my hands. Had met Gary Balkin’s son Jon when I went to Lisbon for Ireland’s game v Portugal in 1995. Gary was one of the Brisbane Broncos owners. Our groups all spent a week together, going to the Ireland game and then jumping on an overnight train to the Algarve to escape the rain. Sharing a bottle of tequila with the Portuguese army lads (they got free travel between bases on the night trains). Jon then had tickets left for us for all the Broncos games when they were at The Valley. Was always a pretty decent crowd.
  • Elton John concert early 2000's.

An obscure kick-off time, too. Not sure I’ve seen 6.15 before. I’m also surprised they wore shorts rather than knickers in 1953.
  • I remember the Unity Cup between Ireland, Jamaica and New Zealand*...
    That was won by Nigeria.

The Sidemen charity match  happened three times (2017, 2018 and 2022) at the Valley. Should also reference they did a hide and seek video at the Valley. It was also where the club's love affair with one Mark Goldbridge began:

These pictures are not AI generated
Probably just me being an old git, but I've no idea what I'm looking at. Why might anyone think they are AI?

Football League Under 21’s versus Serie B? Was the match that Curbs made his move for Danny Mills
