MATCH THREAD : Blackpool V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 1st February 2025 : KO 15:00

🎶"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside"🎶...
Today we travel to the North West Coast for a day out at Blackpool, and while we are at it we will take in a game at Bloomfield Road, the home of Blackpool FC..
I think it's fair to say that Blackpool are on a nice run of 6 wins on the spin, but we ain't too shabby either in the results department, and today will be no different, and I fully expect us to make the trip home with a point at least, with the heart going for the 4th win on the bounce and three more points on the table, Blackpool sit 5 places and 6 points below us in the league, no doubt Steve Bruce’s side will be looking to maintain momentum this weekend following back-to-back wins at Exeter City and Lincoln City.

We've locked horns on 69 occasions against Blackpool, winning 19, the Seasiders 32 and the remaining 18 meetings resulting in draws, Blackpool ran out 2-1 victors at The Valley in the reverse fixture in September 2024, so yet another game where we owe the opposition a defeat eh.

IF results go our way today, we could be troubling the top 6 tonight...🤞

Gas is available for selection apparently, we will be wearing the grey away kit in Lancashire...

So, here we go everyone

Team news...

Nathan Jones has named an unchanged starting XI  this afternoon

Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey are expected to line-up in a back three in front of goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards, who netted for the first time in Tuesday’s win, will likely start as wing-backs. Conor Coventry, Luke Berry and skipper Greg Docherty will make up a midfield three behind Matty Godden, who also scored on Tuesday, and Tyreece Campbell.

Will Mannion, Alex Mitchell, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Miles Leaburn, Chuks Aneke and Daniel Kanu once again make up the substitutes bench.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, A.Mitchell, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, Leaburn, Aneke, Kanu

Charlton players underlined, starting today, who also started the match at the Valley against Blackpool

  • Got to say I like Mitchell in the team, especially away.
  • Good to see Godden and Ramsay in the starting line-up, looking forward to todays game...

Blackpool's line up from the match at the Valley, those underlined are also starting today...

  • Their 24, who is on loan from Brighton, is the nephew of Martin "Chariots" Offiah incidentally.

  • Nice having a settled team. It'll be interesting how it plays out up front, whether Godden and TC is our best partnership or we end up needing more physicality up front. Probably something that'll change game by game.

Same at the back, I hope we don't miss Mitchell's ability in the air. Ramsay is one of our best players though and naturally fits that RCB/RB role behind Small better, especially as he's not as attacking as Small.
  • Love the unofficial chat on CATV before they remember to turn off the mic's

    Nice bench..
Nice bit of Resin and steel...😉
  • Good to keep a winning team. Godden deserves to start.

Hope the ball doesn't keep coming back at us today. Godden worked against a passive Bristol defence, but the Blackpool backline won't give him such an easy time of it.
  • Barnsley 0-0 Burton finished...
Fair play to Burton, they've really turned around their season, just the one defeat in 2025

Thoughts and Prayers are with him!!
  • Stevenage beat Exeter 4-1 in the other KO

Quite important that we get a result today whether thats a win or a draw, as a Blackpool victory takes them to 40-pts which is level with Stevenage.

It suddenly puts two other teams within 3-pts of us, and another potential two sides that have an outside chance of the Play-Offs, and thats without talking about Lincoln and Mansfield who are on 38-pts and 37-pts before they KO today themselves.
  • Wonder if Offiah is a “chariots” or a “Great Balls” to his mates.
  • Nice catch up with Josh, and loving his goal, really good, and sounds like the dressing room is buzzin' at the moment...
