MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Bristol Rovers : Tuesday 28th January 2025 : KO 19:45

Tonight we welcome Bristol Rovers to The Valley under the lights, (can we have them all on tonight please), for yet another opportunity to get three points on the table, and why not, we seem to be really clicking at the moment, and dare I say beginning to look like real contenders for a top six spot come the end of the season, just don't leave it as late as Saturday please lads, the old ticker can't take it.
We come into the clash having recorded back-to-back victories in the league, in fact we have won five of our last seven league games, and tonight going for a hat trick of wins, Bristol Rovers currently sit 18th in the League One standings, and will look to try, unsuccessfully of course, to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic last weekend. That was preceded by a 3-1 win at home to Barnsley.

We've gone toe-to-toe on 71 previous occasions, winning 25, the Pirates 27 and the remaining 19 encounters resulting in draws, Bristol Rovers ran out 3-2 victors at the Memorial Stadium in the reverse fixture in October 2024, so we owe them one there eh...

Here we go everybody...

Team news...

Kayne Ramsay and Matty Godden will both start tonight's as Nathan Jones makes two changes from the side that started Saturday’s 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.

It is a first start for Ramsay since suffering a knee injury against Stockport County in October. The duo replace Alex Mitchell and Miles Leaburn, who move to the bench.

It means the Addicks are expected to line-up in the same 3-5-2 formation used in recent weeks with Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey, making his 50th appearance for the club, in a back three in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Luke Berry and skipper Greg Docherty playing in a midfield three, behind a front two of Godden and Tyreece Campbell.

Alex Mitchell and Leaburn are joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Chuks Aneke and Daniel Kanu.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, A.Mitchell, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, Leaburn, Aneke, Kanu

Yep they've both looked out of sorts recently, so it's good to freshen it up a bit
  • I am surprised that 'The Gas' have the better record playing us, just, but even so
  • The right changes to make. Interested to see Ramsay at RCB.
  • Hopefully TC has the sort of start he had on Saturday if he does I fancy Godden to reap the rewards

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t he play a few there in pre season?
  • no easy games (lol) .. we win another low scoring game
  • Yeah sensible changes and the bench has real impact options. COYRs
  • Phewww Futmob have Allan Campbell playing…

Won't Jones, Gillesphey and Edwards be the three centre halves with Ramsay and Small the wing backs?
  • Shuddered at the sight
  • Whilst the manager and owners say Ahadme will come good, it's pretty telling that he can't get in the matchday squad and we're in our best form of the season.....
  • Small and Ramsey both on the right ?

  • Yes, smart changes. I thought both Leaburn and Mitchell were looking leggy and good to get Ramsey back..
  • I'm going to say it right now. A 5-5 draw.

I suspect he'll never 'come good' with us, in the nicest sense of the phrase, if yer no wot i meen
  • Shouldn't change a winning team

    No height up front

    Gillesphey still making mistakes.

    We will lose

    *Wibble*

They’ve played Saturday Tuesday for a couple of weeks now so something had to give. Leaburn looked very leggy on Saturday I thought. So did TC in my opinion so am surprised to see him start

Hollywood demands a high scoring tie
  • I’m presuming it’s a change of formation with four at the back .? Can’t see Ramsey playing as a right center half .
  • As a Centre-Back I wouldnt enjoy being ran ragged by two mobile Strikers like Campbell and Godden, and then have to deal with two others to potentially come on, who like a good battle instead - Never know, they might equally enjoy it

That’s the other option, but I think it’ll be Ramsay RCB to keep Small at RWB. Otherwise you risk upsetting the balance as it also means TC drifting wide right rather than to the left.
