  • Shame my daughter has enjoyed seeing the animals there
  • Hope this doesn't happen. Apparently shutting it only saves them 70k a year
  • I haven't signed (yet), but I'm on the brink and think I could easily be persuaded. As a kid, I loved being taken to see the deer when we visited Charlton. Similarly I took my kids when they were young. I think it’s Important that young children get the opportunity to see, understand and appreciate animals.

I signed haven't yet because there's a few unknowns for me. 1. What are the council's motives? Is it, purely a money saving venture or are there other reasons? (I'm not on tiktok to see) 2. What will happen to the animals? How will they be impacted by the change? 3. Is the park of a suitable size to provide the animals it has with a genuinely fulfilling life?
  • And don't forget their pensions...
  • Now you can’t park within 80 miles of the valley, I walk through the park every home game. Be absolutely gutted to see it go. Why’s everyone involved in councils always total and utter wankers?
Everything feels really joyless these days.

  • Thought there was a caveat on that park passed down from Lord Marion giving that park to the borough on the understanding deers had to remain within. Also, is there not a tie in with the horses and the disabled school at the top?
All very sad. I guess they are not making enough out of the thousands of flats being constructed down by the river.
  • I lived in Wolfe crescent opposite early to mid 80’s
  • Council Tax going up by the max allowed as well

Used to walk through the park most Saturdays before matches as a kid. Would be sad to see it go
  • Very sad. I used to work through that park on match days with my dad and brother as a child. Seeing the animals was part of the day out.
  • Used to park up the top and stroll down past the animal park every game.   It was a lot harder on the way back up though!   Hopefully a charitable solution will be found although I believe it was mooted before and failed.
  • Signed

  • Was a big part of my life growing up, as I went to the school on the corner Thorntree and lived in Heathwood Gardens at the top of the hill. Use to take my children there and now my Grandson. Really sad and disappointing news should it happen.
  • I lived on Woodland Terrace for nearly 10 years. Not content with letting Lovell build horrible blocks all over what used to be the Morris Walk Estate they're going to delete one of the area's treasures? Great
  • I guess the occupants of those flats won't need animals to see, they're going to spend their entire lives indoors watching streamed TV and eating takeaway

My family parked in Flamsteed Road for decades when going to games. Walking through the park and seeing the animals is such a Charlton related memory for me. Be such a shame to see it go. Plus when younger if the ducks quacked on the way down to a game I'd take it as a sign we'd win!

    Didn't know mute ducks existed

On way back they'd say "f***in loosers" after a loss
  • What a shame - grew up near both Maryon Parks and they were an oasis for us kids - also the danger of getting into Coxs Mount, fantastic!  Was told by a mate a bear had escaped a local circus and lived wild in the Mount - always cacked myself when climbing in there! (what a div I was).
