Marcus Smart

Work is progressing on 'The Valiant 1000' - vol 3, and I am looking for some help in tracing Marcus Smart. He was born in Bromley in 1971 and joined Charlton straight from school, before going on to make one first team appearance in the Zenith Data Systems (Full Members) Cup in November 1989. He left Charlton in 1990 and joining Fisher Athletic. Marcus was a centre half and I have traced his later progress to Margate, Gravesend & Northfleet, Barking, Staines Town, Windsor & Eton and by 1996 Whyteleafe. He would be aged 53 now, and I have an unconfirmed lead that he is or was living in the Orpington area. Does anyone have contact with him, please? Even one first team appearance for Charlton, impresses me and I want his story to be told as accurately and in as much detail as space will permit. Over to you, lifers!!

  • A quick Linkedin search suggests this may be your man? Local, and a member of the PFA.

  • Thanks Sporadic. That looks like our man. I will follow it up. I did try LinkedIn but missed it.
  • I remember him. Probably as we only had a squad of about 16. I would have been at that ZDS game too. Think he played in the same yoof team as leaburn, tivey, minto. Tracey might have further intel on him.
  • Played against him and Damian Matthew when they played for Rivercray, and played against him, Gordon Watson and Mark Tivey, when they played for Kingfisher. Also played with Gordon Watson at U11’s for Hayden
