  • You sign good players when they become available, that's what our greatest manager did.

£600k for a club captain that has league 1 experience, can play multiple positions and is in his mid 20s is a no brainer.

You need to prepare for form, competition, fatigue. He'd have been an excellent signing. We still don't know if Small is going to sign which would leave a vacancy in our back 5 and a lack of competition.

Fair play to them, good pick up.
That’s how you end up with unbalanced squads though surely? You can’t just sign someone because they’re a good player. Wiredu (as far as I’m aware) plays in the middle of the back 3, is he really better than Jones? And would he be happy sitting on the bench when he could be a guaranteed starter and club captain?

He can play anywhere, so can Jones. It's not an unbalanced squad. You'd have 4 first team centre backs (of quality) playing for 3 slots and 3 full backs fighting for two, that's strength in depth. Worst case and someone loses form or doesn't fit in, they can always be loaned out, people always want good players on loan. We've just lost a centre back in Potts and a defensive mid in Allan, that's two vacancies by one player who is better than them both, and would have a chance to work his way into the first team.

If you do not think it wouldn't be a good signing, that's fine, I do. All there is to it. Can approach it from any perspective you'd like but it won't make a difference 👍🏻
  • Brendan Wiredu might be off to Wigan, very good signing for them.

🚨 BREAKING: Wigan Athletic are expected to make one more permanent signing before the Monday deadline.

Fleetwood Town’s Brendan Wiredu is a player Latics may look to go back in for, after an initial bid earlier in the window was knocked back.

Would have still loved him back here, he'd be tailor made for that back 3. If not a very good versatile option.

So they have ‘completed’ the signing but waiting on the medical to go through. Load of old tosh.
  • Is there now a public list of clubs under transfer embargoes.  Interested to know if any other clubs in L1 other than Reading are under one !!!

Was actually caused by the ESI 1 debacle ironically. They didn't use to publish them publicly before that!
  • I didn't even realise Reading were under embargo, so it's literally just us then.

    Fair play Charlton, fkn impressive.
  • Surprised that Burton have loaned out Elliot Watt to St. Johnstone.

Know he was a name that was mentioned on here a few times as a decent prospect last season, and was surprised to see him end up at Burton in the first place.

Just don’t think that Dion Charles deal will work out particularly well. Giving me big Will Grigg vibes.
Any reason why you think that? His record in this division is decent enough and if the partnership with Taylor clicks then they'll surely go up automatically, given they are already in 4th.

Their defence is pretty solid but they don't really score enough goals (13 less than Wycombe). Adding those two solves that issue.
No strong reason, just a feeling I have knowing how inter-division striker signings in January sometimes pan out. Wouldn’t be shocked if he only managed four or five goals at most before the end of the season and then can’t get in their team in the Championship if they end up there.

But it’s a flashy signing for the level and gets the fans on side, no doubt about that.
Long way to go in the season yet so it might all pan out for them but since Dion Charles signed for Huddersfield they’ve played four, drawn 1 and lost 3. Dion has scored zero goals.

“Have we got the receipt for Dion Charles? #htafc”

“#htafc fantastic investment in Charles that. Well scouted, just like the other shite we've brought in over the past few seasons. Where's does the real problem really lie?”

And Taylor is out injured too.

Sounds like here after our bigger name signings flopped.
  • Peterborough have accepted a "huge bid" from a Championship side for Emmanual Fernandez with him returning to Posh on loan for the rest of the season. Of all their names linked for better things, I can't say that I've heard of him before now

Been mentioned on here a couple of times with their other promising players.

I know @DyerConsequences did a bit of a preview on him on one of his longer posts about Peterborough

If they get Exeter form Randell Williams that's a very very good signing from Orient. Would suggest they aren't getting Owen Dale as well.
  • Bristol Rovers have signed Sil Swinkels on loan from Aston Villa:

Weird that they're selling to "playoff rivals" especially after selling Charles to Huddersfield.

Posh fans seem to be buzzing with this, another like Ricky Jade-Jones where he's rated by everyone except the supporters of the club he plays for
  • With Ipswich about to sign keeper Alex Palmer from WBA, it seems likely that WBA will now recall Josh Griffiths (who impressed us last week) from Bristol Rovers as his replacement.

Would be a huge blow for Bristol Rovers but I'd back Griffiths to go back to WBA and start over Joe Wildsmith.

Maybe rule out Dale to Wycombe, just signed Adam Reach on a free.
