  • Leaving aside my feelings about the competition, having watched the last 20 minutes, that's a terrible advert for T20/short form cricket. A form which should be about big hitting, and sixes flying into the crowd. That pitch looked completely limp.

Not paying £30 to just fall asleep trying to watch late at night
  • I have TNT (BT Sport as was). If England could actually be competitive for the first time since 10/11, I might have been tempted to stay up to watch more of the recent series...

I had it through BT but changed to Sky as a platform because BT were overcharging for the "privilege" of having it in more than one room and won't allow you in to have it in more than two rooms.

A spin attack of Root and Bashir is just such a gift to the batting side
@DennisBooth will be along in a minute to say he’s actually really good because he got a 5 for against some village level cricketers a few weeks back. He is garbage - he can’t put more than 2 balls in a row on a decent length and the vast majority of his wickets come from stupid mistakes by batsmen.
Am I not entitled to my opinion then? Ricky Ponting was asked who he thought was the best Spinner for Australian conditions and he said Bashir. Because he puts more overspin on the ball.
I get so sick of posters like you. Can’t you respect my opinion without your snide remarks. I am finished with this forum and Social media in general. Bye

I've had the TNT package on Sky for around 18 months. Was going to cancel it this summer until I heard they were planning on showing The Ashes. Good reason to stay now.

  • 22 year old Dewald Brevis, against Australia, has just hit the highest ever score by a South African in international T20s - 125 (56). He also achieved the second fastest South African T20 hundred -  off 41 balls - after being just 14 off 12 balls.

Calm down love. You were the one that made a wanky comment about Stokes knowing a bit more than me after I gave an opinion on Bashir’s ability in the first place.

  • Glad to see Saqib Mahmood back. Gotta be an outside bet for the Ashes.

That is an odd looking squad tho
  • Really weird squad. How's Tom Hartley still around???
  • England ODI squad for South Africa: Harry Brook (capt), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler (wk), Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wk).

England T20 squad for South Africa: Harry Brook (capt), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler (wk), Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Jamie Smith (wk), Luke Wood.

England T20 squad for Ireland: Jacob Bethell (capt), Rehan Ahmed, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jos Buttler (wk), Liam Dawson, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt (wk), Luke Wood.
  • Bethell captaining is mental
  • These squads are some honking Hundred-pilled garbage
  • In the last 10 weeks, named as the youngest ever England captain today, Jacob Bethell has batted 10 times in all forms of the game and scored 83 runs in total. That's just over 8 runs a week during the middle of our summer.
  • Potts, for someone under central contract, has bizarrely fallen out of favour, so reduced to just being picked for the Ireland T20 series.

I know it’s only Ireland but hope he goes and tears it up

They see something in him that I certainly don't that's for sure
  • Sonny Baker I haven't seen a huge amount of but I guess he's this year's John Turner.

Been watched by Key and Baz for a while and went on tour with Freddie and the England youngsters where he impressed apparently. . Bowling quick in the hundred at the moment and pretty young. Could be one to watch if he stays fit.

Doing that with his central contract would be a bit petulant and would cost him a lot financially.

Real “summer of four captains” vibe here.

Prompted by a ballot email from The Oval, I've been looking at next summer's international schedule.

Two 3 match Test series, NZ in June, Pakistan in August/September. White ball series in July (India) and September (Sri Lanka).

Curiously NZ play 2 tests in a row in London, the first at Lord's, the second at The Oval. It feels odd to have the Oval Test in mid June. Maybe as consolation, it gets the final ODI of the summer instead.

Lord's of course gets 2 tests, plus a women's test against India, the first ever at Lord's.

They have to keep the New Zealander's in the City for as long as possible. Let them loose out in the country & the farmers will be having to lock up their sheep.
  • Presumably 19th July to 19th August is the Hundred?

At least there are some Tests in August, but it leaves the Edgbaston one really late.

Next season the Blast will be completed in one block, so presumably will be finished at least a week before the Hundred starts.

And the England Test players will presumably be back with England at least a week before the Pakistan series starts, so realistically the all format players will miss much of it anyway.

Away from England, Pujara has announced his retirement from international cricket. A slightly curiously timed announcement seeing that he hasn't been picked for 2 years and in the recent Test series was in the TMS commentary box!

    The Andy Cole
  • I'm a bit confused by that Pujara statement because I think he's actually retired from all cricket? Was a privilege to watch him bat with Steve Smith for Sussex and I'm sure he'll be on TMS for years to come.
