I think it will end up a draw but it's been a great test match so far and a wonderful portent for the rest of the series..I want to see England bat positively but not gung ho .Bit of cloud cover it seems at Headingley but a bit of rain in the air which ought to negate swing .I think the key is root..if he goes big we have a chance
I hope that when play begins today that we don't go full Bazball ( I hate that expression) from the off. Play normal cricket for the 1st session and then reassess at lunch. If we are say 3 wickets down by lunch then play sensible and go for the draw. If we find ourselves 120 without loss then have a go, but this is a 5 match series and a draw here with some of our best bowlers missing is not a bad result.
I think England are favourites tbh, and they're favourites because of their batting approach
Lump on then - 3.40 freely available. Before you do, though, I would check for the cloud cover that might be around. You don't have to be a great fast bowler to be an exponent of such conditions but it helps if you have one in your side that is. And take a check of the wicket for any cracks that Jadeja might expose on a 5th day wicket.
The more I look at the weather the draw looks really tasty at that 3.25 no?
Certainly looks that way but from what the Sky boys are saying it's very windy so it could pass them through quickly. One can't help thinking that if we are to win then we have to attack early and if successful in doing so, we won't need anything like 90 overs but nearer, say, 65-70.
I think the difference between @Addickted2TheReds and my predictions is probably based on the fact that I'm more of a neutral when it comes to Test cricket (one of those wanky 'just love a good game' types yeah yeah) and he's more into the idea of England winning. So I'm much less nervous (not counting down the minutes) and less worried about England falling apart with an incredible, at times absurdly unlikely win in sight. Genuinely, India need to pull something off here or it will slip away at speed, and that's a testament to what Stokes has done
I mean, if Kohli was still captain I'd want England to win by 10 wickets in 50 overs, obv

I think it will be a draw, but mainly because the weather is looking iffy
Aside from the weather, I think it is possible for ENG to get the runs. Not sure quite how possible
Obviously batting last on a 5th day test pitch is different to batting second on a one day pitch, but look at how many runs can be scored during an ODI a single innings, let alone over the whole day. How many overs could potentially be bowled?
I thought I heard the commentators saying something about Bumrah (or it might have been Jadeja) only playing 3 of the tests? Is that right? The test series is more of a marathon than a sprint - not Stokes' style but the old adage of winning the war and not needing to win every battle springs to mind. Don't risk losing the series by going for the win and ending up losing when it could have been a draw?
Lancashire, in their game against Kent are playing three spinners - Luke Wells (opening bat), Chris Green (Australia) and Ashton Turner (Australia). Last season they had Nathan Lyon (Australia). Meanwhile, Tom Hartley, having played the first half of the season when wickets would not have suited spin as much as they are doing now, is in their 2s. This is the Bashir situation re-visited although, in the case of Somerset, their two spinning alternatives are both English.
Hartley isn't county standard anyway tbh
Gone wicketless for Lancs 2s yesterday against Sussex 24-2-0-68.
Fingers crossed the variable bounce sticks to popping up rather than shooting low. Big day for Stokes I feel, amazing captain but been well off it with the bat for quite a long period now.

But then Green returned 37-6-104-2 against Kent. My point was that someone has got this wrong. Either England for continuing to pick him for tours or Lancashire for paying an overseas player with no pedigree for red ball bowling in preference of one of their own who has performed better for them this season and would reap the benefit of being kept in the side.

Rain not forecast now according to Atherton? Must admit I haven't checked the forecast again since yesterday evening

I checked the MET office this morning and it looked grim pretty much all day. The radars they have obviously better!
There would be nothing more pleasurable than Siraj taking a wicket - only for it to be called a "no ball" by the third umpire.
Got to be the current most dislikeable cricketer around. Can't even back up the chat with actually being any good. Wouldn't be surprised if him and Thakur are dropped.

If Bumrah has to be rested they will probably have to start.

An injury to Bumrah and the seam attack looks very blunt

Supposedly Bumrah isn't playing every test anyway. So their depth will be severely tested

I think they might end up resting Bumrah for the one Test - the 3rd. The next one doesn't start for over a week whereas the 3rd Test starts 4 days following the end of the 2nd.
You can already smell desperation in that review. Even if we do end up collapsing and losing, I love seeing their concern that they might not defend 370.

Admittedly no Kohli or Ashwin might bring the ratio down in favour of the nicer blokes.
