MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Wycombe Wanderers : Sunday 29th December 2024 : KO 12:30pm

So, here we are on the third of our trilogy of Christmas games, and so far they ain't been too shabby have they, 5-0 and 2-1 results have seen us leap into the dizzy heights of 11th place in the league...and today it's Wycombe Wanderers who have come to face us at The Valley for what will be our last game of the year.
Now Wycombe are, so far, having a reasonable season, and currently occupy the second spot in the league some 17 points ahead of us, and currently on a 19 game unbeaten run in the league, so will no doubt prove difficult opposition, and we will need to be on Northampton kind of form, and some, rather than Cambridge it must be said...

We've met on 13 previous occasions, winning seven, the Chairboys four and the remaining two matches resulting in draws, Wycombe ran out 1-0 victors at Adams Park when we last met back in April 2024.

So, here we go everybody...

Nathan Jones has named an unchanged squad for today’s game...

It means the Addicks will likely line-up with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards are expected to operate as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty in midfield.

Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell, who have both netted in each of the last two games, are again expected to start up front together.

Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Allan Campbell, Gassan Ahadme, Danny Hylton and Matty Godden again make up the bench.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Docherty (c), Coventry, Berry, Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A.Campbell, Ahadme, Hylton, Godden

    ‘a reasonable season’!!
    Yes...
  • I reckon we'd bite their arms off for a season so "reasonable"!
    :-)
  • Thank you eastterrace for your adequate preview.
    It was nothin'...apparently 🙄
  • Unchanged team.
  • Unchanged lineup. Not surprised

  • Still no Aneke on the bench.
I doubt we will see much more of him until he's released at the end of season
  • Charlton: Maynard-Brewer, A. Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey, Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards, Leaburn, T. Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A. Campbell, Ahadme, Hylton, Godden

Wycombe: Ravizzoli, Grimmer (c), Harvie, Udoh, McCleary, Bakinson, Low, Humphreys, Morley, Lubala, Taylor

Subs: George, Scowen, Hartridge, Leahy, Kodua, Kone, Onyedinma
  • Kone only on the bench for them, wonder how many changes they have made? Are they resting a few? Do they think they can beat us with a second string?
  • Hopefully we don't give any cheap free kicks away around the box or Aaron Morley will punish us like he did for Bolton a couple of seasons back
  • Kone only on the bench for them, wonder how many changes they have made? Are they resting a few? Do they think they can beat us with a second string?
I make it three changes from their win at Stevenage. Kone, Leahy, Onyedinma out & Udoh, Bakinson, McCleary in.
  • Why on earth am I up before 6am for this?
Because you really want to ruin your Sunday?
  • Mccleary usually scores against us
  • Whilst I said on the preview thread that you dont want to change a winning side I did go on to say that the lack of subs on Boxing Day could come back to haunt us as the players will be knackered after an hour.

    Ho hum.

    What was your expected-getting-up-time? Xgut
  • Still no Aneke on the bench.

No Kanu either, is he injured? 3 very slow forwards options on the bench again.
  • Gutted not to be able to watch this as it will be a real test of this slightly changed style of play and our confidence. The Birmingham game is giving me hope but I'd be happy if we managed to get a draw. Wycombe are a seriously good side

Lots of reflecting over the past year going on in the Wycombe camp… this time last year they were on the tail end of a 12 game winless run, sitting 19th and flirting with relegation.

  • Bakinson starts for Wycombe... Feels like we've nearly always got an ex-Addick up against us

It's fine. It isn't like he's already scored both a winning goal and a 25-yard screamer against us for two different clubs

    *phone starts buzzing*

    Yes...
If that was Charlton you would be saying some thing else that’s for sure.
  • AMB is the worry for me. Decent line up otherwise

    It’s Sunday?! Bloody hell.

On a positive though Alan McCleary has to be about 60 now
  • Can't argue with a winning team. My only gripe would be A Campbell on the bench instead of Taylor and Hylton opposed to Kanu. Can only imagine Kanu has an injury?
