Extending Lloyd Jones’ contract should be the number 1 priority in this window, although I’m not optimistic that we’ll achieve that with Scott et al at the wheel, particularly given our mid-table status. The big mistake was not negotiating an additional one-year option for the club when Lloyd signed from Cambridge, at a time when we were in a much stronger negotiating position.
Selling players because the training pitch is only big enough for 22 players, what a load of bollocks. He will be telling us next we have to sell some players because we only have 22 parking bays at Sparrows Lane
"Prior to the thrashing of Northampton there has been some criticism levelled at Jones for the style of football played.
The Welshman said after the big weekend victory that he and his players had been “villified” and “hammered” in recent weeks.
Methven – asked about the footballing fare served up – said: “Anyone who watched our game against Northampton would have found that very pleasing on the eye. And anyone who watched us beat Birmingham would have found that very pleasing on the eye. The truth is when you play well or execute the game plan well it tends to be pleasing on the eye. When it is not quite there yet, then it tends to not be very pleasing on the eye."
People moaned that he hadn't said anything and now people are moaning that he has. Cant win can he? Some people have made their minds up (some based on where he went to school) and that's that.

Merry Christmas.
That’s not quite true, I don’t give a monkeys what school he went to, or what coloured trousers he wears, although I think it’s a misconception that he always wears salmon trousers.
For me, it’s all about the pace of progress and improvement achieved, which at the moment, is no where near quick, or good enough.
He should work up a ten minute stand up routine and perform it at half time like Stan Boardman once did when we played up at Anfield.
’What’s the difference between Oxford United and Charlton Athletic? One pays me in memories, the other pays me in cash’.
Incidentally was there any word on who the new club Secretary will be following Dangerfield in order to allow Chris Parkes his well earned retirement? Maybe Methven could save the club money by doing that job himself.

I dont think anyone has said it's good enough, have they?
My point was that people were moaning about the silence, now people are moaning hes said something. Cant have it both ways.

Total rubbish. People are simply judging him on how they see him running the club. Perhaps last season finishing 16th in the table and this season not doing much better is why they are moaning.

Maybe maybe not.
Given the overall inbalance of the squad and collective under par performance none are ‘critical’.
Yes potentially these are players to keep but as we were willing to let May and Dobson go who knows what NJ really wants the squad to look like.
Don’t buy for one minute the whole ‘bedding in new people’ line. We’ve bought incredibly poorly and have a bloated squad that severely lacks attacking threat. If you had the right players, the results would be better.
Supporters welcome him speaking but it’s the content that’s being objected to. The soundbites, the metaphors, the spin. That’s a pretty long article and to be honest there’s very little content of note. By highlighting two games this season where it’s gone right on the pitch would suggest the ten in between were not at the expected standard and, in truth, in the majority of cases were pretty awful. Hardly a convincing argument that we are on the right track.

I don’t think anyone (well hardly anyone) was moaning about any silence from him.
It doesn’t take long to work out that Charlie Boy is always right, and will always have a convincing or lengthy argument of why he is right.

What a pile of shit.
Picking out two games in a 20 game season.
1 in 10 games our team is watchable, why you all moaning?

Of course they were!
Anyway, tis the season of goodwill, so fuck you lot! ;-)
Charlie, I have watched every minute of league and cup(s) football this season (either live or on stream), plus a lot of the academy. It is virtually the same as last season but without the hope and joy of watching Alfie May and George Dobson, but with the astonishment of watching Gary Docherty (despite Saturday) and Gassan Ahadme. I was also present at the ‘tribute’ to Kevin Nolan, were you?
I think there is a bit of an overreaction here. Charlie will never be the most popular character but some of the points he makes are valid. The quote regarding only having a pitch big enough for 22 is probably a bit ridiculous and certainly doesn't really need to be used to highlight a squad that with Laqeretabua now making appearances stands at 29, he also makes a point about one or two players need to be brought in, can't knock him there. I think overall he made points that we probably all agree with, Northampton, Birmingham and I will add Bolton to that list were pleasing on the eye and he correctly points to Bristol Rovers and Crawley as low points. It seems to me that Charlie was giving his personal opinion on the football side of the club and he has openly admitted elsewhere that the football side is not in his skill set, it's just his opinion.
I know that CL won’t be happy as players won’t pass the height test, but if the training pitch isn’t big enough for 22 players, perhaps the club should be signing small players.

Gary Docherty 😬
Shiver me timbers, that fits the oil tanker analogy!
If it’s what he says moving on 4, 5 or more deadwood players and bringing in 2 or 3 good players all good as far as I am concerned. But my biggest concerns are firstly trusting the bloke, and secondly who will take on the deadwood players and would they voluntarily move on?
I think it's an interesting comment to mention the squad size needs bringing down - as mentioned you've got the likes of Potts, Campbell (A) and Hylton who you could extricate from the squad very very easily and at no cost if it is purely down to a question of not having enough space on the training pitch. A comment like that makes it really difficult to justify extending any deals with those 3 so if that happens (with really any of the 3 of them) then I would say questions need to be asked. You would think getting a league 2 or one step lower loan deal for Asiimwe would not be difficult either so that brings the squad size down to 23 straight away. Edun might be a slightly harder sell but surely a L2 club would have a look at him even on loan.
In terms of the rest if it meant getting a quality creative and attacking minded player or two in their place then I wouldn't be against Anderson/REG/Taylor shipping out (or at a push a Kanu loan) which again I don't think would be a particularly hard task to accomplish, albeit I would be slightly disappointed to have to lose one or two of them - I could easily see some lower/mid league 1 teams happily picking up any of those four though.
What this squad size excuse can't be allowed or accepted as a reason for would be for losing Lloyd Jones, Coventry, Small or Leaburn IMO but my fear is that it will be and it is a legit concern that this is what we are being primed for here.

Well obviously. When things were shit, not a peep from Charlie M. One good result and suddenly he's sticking himself in the spotlight.
Any criticism is entirely self inflicted by the opportunistic twat.

Justifies everything.

But how long has he been promising improvement?
How much longer can he write off previous windows as if he, Scott and Rodwell weren't in control during them?
How is the squad too big but still underperforming when his team has been in control over the last three windows?
When does jam tomorrow become jam today?
Just stick Bollocks on the end.
