A happy afternoon for the travelling Addicks send us into the Christmas season in high spirits!
In a spell of poor form, and without a manager, Northampton Town would have been hoping for something to kickstart a run up the table and away from the relegation spots. Unfortunately for them, a rampant Addicks turned up to play the spoiler. Conditions were less than ideal but strong, swirling winds did nothing to blunt the Addick’s attack. On nine minutes, Charlton’s captain, Greg Docherty burst into the box to get on the end of a Tyreece Campbell knock back and open the Addicks account with a lovely finish with his left foot. It was Tyreece Campbell that doubled the lead just some three minutes later, running into the box to get on the end of a Miles Leaburn pass that he was able to toe poke home. On thirty-six minutes, Leaburn found the back of the net with a nifty take down and snap shot from six yards, finished with his left. Charlton comfortably saw out the first half, three to the good and in cruise control.
Northampton never got a foothold in the game. And it was an inspired Greg Docherty, the Scottish Merlot, who blasted home his second and Charlton’s fourth on sixty-eight minutes to put any comeback out of the question. It was a beautiful strike that he hit first time and gave the keeper no chance as it found the top left corner of the goal. But Charlton were not done. To put the icing on the cake just at about ninety minutes, Alex Mitchell burst into the box and laid a peach of a cutback for Danny Hylton to stroke home to make it five nil.
Northampton Town 0 Charlton 5

Discombobulated from Lewisham.
But oh no Charlton go and win 5 nil away and ruin it.
Merry Xmas everyone
Especially happy for the lads & lasses that went up there, glad you got your reward.
The team reaction to Danny Hylton's goal was far more than jubilation at the fifth goal. He seems to be genuinely liked by the other players. Great to see.
We saw a lot more of that today.
Just hope this form can continue, as somehow we are still in touch.
The 5th goal was the pick of the bunch, lovely skill from Anderson, a good cutback from Mitchell and clinical finish from Hylton. A good mix of longer balls and playing through the midfield.
Northampton were terrible but I think we would have beaten most teams in the league today. Can we crack on now? I thought we were going to after Birmingham but it never happened.
I resign.
I find today even more frustrating that we cannot put together more of these types of performances together more often. I’m not having it that it was just because Northampton were terrible, we still needed to impose ourselves on the game. This crop of players we currently have are certainly good enough individually to do so.
No one should get carried away because this squad clearly has limitations. It needs at least a couple of additions of real quality if we are to become truly competitive.
advantage. Doch MoM
Shame Jones didn’t stay out and applaud the fans.
