Xmas prep

Last day of work yesterday for 2 weeks.
A few too many drinks last night, but have started the Xmas prep already.
Shopping done in the week for food and pressies, never been so organised. Pick up the Goose tomorrow which is the final piece of the puzzle.
Currently making stock for gravy, smelling amazing already. Just need the weather to get a bit colder. Will be heading to France for the match.
How far along the preparations are you, or is it lastminute.com ?

  • Went and got the Christmas Shopping from Asda yesterday, was a Click & Collect we did weeks ago.

Presents got purchased back in November, and my wife has long wrapped the majority of them, the only ones unwrapped actually are the ones I've got for her, which I'll probably do Christmas Eve as its so much effort.

Decorations have been up since the first week in December as well

Been a nice laid back approach to Christmas this year, none of the frantic running around, at least until Christmas Eve for me, when I realise I need to rush out and find some crappy wrapping paper and sellotape
  • All the presents are sorted and wrapped, picking up the turkey and gammon for Boxing Day from M&S first thing Monday. My wife and daughter are out today and will be getting the veg and I’ll be making the red cabbage dish I do every year tomorrow.

Have only just started to feel better after a bout of flu so haven’t touched the booze I’d bought in advance that I normally have to top up nearer the time.
  • All sorted in my household. My daughter has even told me what the wife has bought me so no real need for me to bother unwrapping my presents in anticipation.

I love red cabbage - what do you do?
  • Outside lights up and were ready for 1st Dec switch on. Inside decs as close to that as possible. Cook order is in the freezer, remembered Xmas cards to wife from me & the cats. We don't do presents anymore but I have got her a heavy duty candle making kit so she make stuff to sell for the cat sanctuary she helps. All in all, all good apart from me feeling lousy with a covid or flu type bug, either that or it's just a case of man flu.

I do it with apple, onion, garlic, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, brown sugar and white wine vinegar. It’s an old Delia Smith recipe

Just ordered my top up. Run out of 10 year old apple brandy. Think that's why the head was sore this morning 🎉😬.
Good the man flu has shifted, nothing worse this time of year if it messes up the big day.

    Sounds lovely, Dave
  • Turkey collected today. Going in its brine tomorrow. Stock already made. Wrapping presents is the wife's job!

  • Gravy stock is cooling. Work on the stuffing tomorrow.
  • Food shopping 6am Monday at Tesco's. Pick up turkey from the local butcher 8am Christmas Eve. This year have bought Red Cabbage dish and Honey Glazed Parsnips from M&S, and a lovely Chestnut stuffing they do as I'm the only one who prefers that to good old Paxo Sage and Onion although I'll have that too. Wife will do the veggies sometime Christmas Eve with a bit of help from me. All pressies bought and wrapped, my job that one.

Won't have to pick up my Mum and Dad Christmas Day morning as they live with us now so it won't be so hectic, hopefully. Will just be a quiet one with the four of us. Golfie and family visiting on 27th, wangled it so I'm at work they day 😁
