Bar a midnight viewing of Gavin & Stacey, TV got turned on for first time n 3 days this afternoon and enjoyed Wallace & Grommit. Such an easy family watch.
Wanna try and sneak a proper film in tonight if I can stay awake
It's a poor day of telly when the very silly, all style over substance, Gangs of New York is the film of the day.
I've seen so many criticism of this film over the years but I still don't understand. I'm a big Scorsese fan so I may be biased but I never thought one of his films could be labeled as "style over substance"😅 That's a term usually fits the likes of Wes Anderson films.... Anyway, this is the second film of Scorsese's I've ever seen. I was not a fan of his films at all at the time but I loved it. That was early 2000's. I became a fan last year and rewatched it, thought it stood the test of time. It's a well told story and entertaining enough. Much better than all the new films we get to see these days. Also slightly better and faster paced than Scorsese's own latest work (Killers of the Flower Moon).

I’m with you Jessie . I think it’s a great film . Probably not in Scoreces’s top five but he’s made so many classics that’s not surprising and definitely better than Killers of The Flower Moon .

Daniel Day Lewis is great in it .
Yep, it's probably not one of his best five but it has a special place in my heart. DDL is great, as always. I like DiCaprio's performance, too.
It’s a Wonderful Life was on French terrestial télévision this year so after several years of trying, I finally persuaded my wife to watch it with me.
Did she like it ? It's definitely the best Christmas movie of all time for me.
Yes, she did. I have a new TV but I think the superb picture quality must also be thanks to improvements they’ve made to the original picture. It’s amazing for a film made in 1947.
As for it being à Christmas film, I’m not sure that at the time that was the intention. My eldest son was disappointed and left half way through complaining it was boring and that he’d thought we were sitting down together to watch a Christmas film. It was only then that I realised that Clarence comes down to help quite late on in the film, and it’s only Christmas for the last 20-30 minutes of a 2 hour film.

RECOMMENDED FILM OF THE DAY MASTER & COMMANDER : THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD
The film is based on the hunt for the USS Essex, the first American warship to operate in the Pacific during the War of 1812. The film's events are based on real events, but the American ship was replaced with a fictional French vessel.

Because the American audiences wouldn't appreciate them being the bad guys!
