Wallet stolen and trackable - what would you do?

Pretty sure I got pickpocketed on my way out of the darts last night. Didn't put it all together until this morning. I can track the wallet and it's currently in Ilford and moving about. It contains £200 cash (I was drunk and got money out!), a hotel Chocolat loyalty card and a driving licence and three bank cards.  The cards don't appear to have been used and I've cancelled them. The cash is almost certainly spent. But it bothers me that I can see where it is!!

What would you do - let it slide or go find it?

Odd that they’ve kept the wallet. Usually take what’s worth having and dump that…if they’ve actually stolen it. Slim chance I suppose, but they could be trying to find you or going to a police station.

Had my card cloned years ago and found they’d used it to buy designer clothes and a load of bass speakers for their car. Stupidly, they’d given their address to deliver it all to, a housing estate near The Oval.  Had a few mates ready to come with me to pay them a visit, but the bank refunded me straight away and we left it with the police. No idea if they did anything with the info we gave them, although we couldn’t have made it any easier.

I suppose calling the cops would be a stupid answer.
Tried that. At one point it was outside Ilford Police Station for ten minutes but the listed number for that place does not work! Reported it online as I was on hold on 101 for an hour before giving up.

That's awful. Hope you get it back, hard not to be doubtful though.

Sorry to hear that, how do you get a trackable wallet?. Pity it's not got a burst into flames option... Driving license replacement can be an absolute pain, hope the process has improved. Since travelling around 2009, I use a pacsafe wallet, which is attached by a chain I also know I can't be absent minded  and leave it around somewhere.
  • Depends how accurate your tracker is, Ilfords a big place so unless you can track it to a specific property or person you are clutching at straws

You say you were pissed so could you have dropped it?
  • @eaststandmike Yes totally feasible I dropped it, but I’ve never done that before and I wasn't wasted. It was in my coat pocket rather than jeans, which was easily accessible. Feel really stupid about that - hundreds of drunk people walking out of a venue must be easy pickings!

@red10 it’s got an Apple airtag in it. Whoever has it must have an iPhone cos as long as it’s near one you can see where it is. They should also get a message telling them there is an airtag nearby so not sure how long it will be before it gets taken out.
  • The cash and cards have probably been taken out and the wallet tossed, most likely into the back of a passing lorry, or left under the seat in a cab if it’s still moving around.

This will probably sound insensitive but I don’t mean it to be - why have a trackable wallet and then ponder your actions when the scenario you are safeguarding against occurs?
I have a tracker in it to see which room it is in when I can't find it, not to hunt down criminals.
You obviously live in a big house if you can track to a precise room and generally misplace your wallet 🙂

I guess the good news is the cards not used.

(As I say not trying to be insensitive.)
  • Knowing the state of the country i wouldn't be surprised they don't sue you for only having £200 in it. In all seriousness hope the scum that did it have ill fate spending your money.

Not sure what you can do police are not interested and you don't know what animal will have it in his possession.

    Good luck in any event.

  • The police are not interested in lost property anymore although they will accept a wallet if it is identifiable.

  • How smart are these Apple AirTags

Can you send a signal to it to self combust and blow whoever has it to pieces 😁😁

  • This is promising! It's been next to the Post Office for the last hour or so, so maybe it's on its way home...

  • I would go and find it, keeping in mind that the “finder” may be trying to hand it in (hence the police station 10 mins part).

Maybe a large magpie accidentally swallowed it and who happens to reside in a tree next to a post box in Ilford.
  • Drunk coming out of the darts, whatever next?
When you say shall I let it slide?
I've come out of the darts slipped and slid down that grass bank at least twice in the last few years.

    Blimey.  Just follow the vibrations.

Which room? How many wings do you have?

Mine just shows which property it is in, before ringing rather loudly.

Not sure I would. If it’s been nicked it’s probably some crackhead who’ll shank you, if it’s a Good Samaritan trying to get it back to him then they should be able to find him via his driving license.

The credit cards are cancelled, the cash probably long gone and driving licenses are replaceable. It’s not worth getting stabbed over.
