He had his flaws but he was a pretty decent keeper for us in the Championship amongst the misery. I suppose it's hard to say as they both played about half a season (23 and 24 games each) in a relegation disaster show so neither exactly had their best year. Arguably the difference is their showings is that Pope went on to a Premier League move straight after to be groomed to take over as a number 1 and Elliot played two seasons in L1 before getting a move as a third choice keeper in the Prem. In terms of the seasons they played for us in the Championship though there's no real winners there, I doubt either of them will look back on their highest level seasons with us fondly.Radostanradical said:
I wouldnt put Pope there at all, he has done brilliantly but for us he really wasnt that goodGarrymanilow said:
I've thought about it and I don't think I'd put Elliot all that high for us. I'd put Carson, Hamer, Randolph, Pope and maybe even Phillips and Henderson above him since Kiely. Elliot wasn't particularly brilliant for us but he does have more than 50 Premier League appearances so maybe that's harshRadostanradical said:Hopefully we win and will be nice to see Elliot who is probably our best keeper since Kiely1 -
Charlton give early Xmas joy to the 600-800 travelling Crawley fans (600 sold in advance). 0-1.0

When you look at the fixtures, December is a massive month for us if we plan to get back in amongst it.6

2-0 Charlton. Both goals coming in the second half in a scrappy match.

Pope was largely dire for us . Randolph was better on his line but not commanding . I’d have Hamer over Rob , mainly for the memories .Garrymanilow said:

He was POTY that season.

Big opportunity for Robbie Elliott to audition for the Charlton manager's job.
Sadly for him our 3 - 1 win will dent those chances but his team's style of play will impress some.0 -
plus he had air of Desperate Dan about himMarcusH26 said:I'd easily go for Carson as the best keeper since Deano. I know he was only a loan but he was absolutely outstanding. Hamer probably up there too - remember one outstanding performance he had at The Amex to get a point Vs Brighton.
Scott Carson
Desperate Dan...

Thomas Myrhe was decent keeper. Got pushed to number two with the loan deal for Carson. Think there was a condition that if fit Carson had to play.1

Pope was certainly not dire. Thuram was dire.wmcf123 said:

For various reasons there have been a bizarre lack of games at The Valley in recent weeks.
No league game since Wrexham on October 26th, and as I was away for that and didn't go to the Bromley EFL Trophy, I've not been to a home game since the 19th October, 6 1/2 weeks ago!0 -
Wow thats a blast from the past forgot about him he was alright, see a few names actually now. I remember Stephan Anderson being an incredible shot stopper but poor in other areas. Pope as I said was poor for us I remember one game vividly (cant recall against who) where the other team has a free kick just outside the area, he set up the wall and took his position and what felt like the whole North stand behind him were shouting he is too far over for like 30 seconds, they take the free kick beat the wall but not well placed and it goes in.Return of the SE7 said:Thomas Myrhe was decent keeper. That said the lad has proven him self to be a premier league goalkeeper and imo probably should have more caps, perhaps those mistake were the same all young players make just amplified as he was a GK.0 -
Can you blame Thuram ? How dare an upstart crow like Chris Powell expect a man of Thuram's statue to travel to an away game like some kind of professional footballer. Thuram was treated with nothing but disrespect when all he ever did was decide to grace the English game with his talent without even being asked to.Starinnaddick said:

With the way Carson played Myhre didn't have a chance anyway. Also still had Andersen for part of that season too iirc.Return of the SE7 said:Thomas Myrhe was decent keeper. Got pushed to number two with the loan deal for Carson. Think there was a condition that if fit Carson had to play.

Charlton goalkeepers could probably have their own thread but who remembers John Sullivan, I know he wasnt number 1 material but always had a soft spot for him and didnt think he was that bad.0

Quit the game not long after leaving us I think and I'm sure I read something about him struggling with depression whilst playing but could be wrong on that.Radostanradical said:Charlton goalkeepers could probably have their own thread but who remembers John Sullivan, I know he wasnt number 1 material but always had a soft spot for him and didnt think he was that bad.1 -
Thuram as mentioned above, what an absolute clown

Yeah he did but read an interview where it sounded like he lost his confidence took his 5 figure pay off from Pompey and went to Las Vegas to start a business and is now very successful over there. fair play to the young man for deciding there's a life outside of football for him.Talal said:

Mitchell is the last player that I would expect to score direct from a corner.YannTheMann said:1-0 win for us, Alex Mitchell from a corner3 -

Have we ever got to December without having had a midweek league game at home?0
-
Rob Elliot will get a clap from me. (Note, a clap, not the clap!)
Hope the ref starts spot on 7.45 and doesn't add on loads of extra time...unless we are losing of course.
If Alan Campbell plays, I hope he has one of his better games. I'd far prefer TC to figure but we'll see.
We haven't let a goal in for a couple of games, so we will have to score at least twice to win. Probably a draw.1 -
Got a bad feeling about this one. Expectations have been raised after the weekend. Expecting normal service to be resumed. 0-2.0
