Jack Vitty

Since the return of the Ex-Players Association, there has been some discussion as to the identity of the oldest living Charlton players. One man who held that honour until three years ago was full back Jack Vitty. A one time coal miner from Boldon Colliery, (the Tyneside village that gave us both Sam Bartram and Jack Shreeve), Vitty made two First Division appearances for Charlton in 1948-49 and went on to have a successful career with Brighton and Workington. He passed away two months short of his 99th birthday in 2021. He got close to being our first ever centurion, but a belated RIP to him.
