Surely developing the culture should be in the remit of experienced coaches. Money would have been better spent there than on jobs for old mates.
Hasn't Curbs often spoken about the need for good experienced pros in the group. I specially remember Curbs talking about the impact of Di Canio around the training ground setting standards and being the first player to embrace the ice bath...
Not saying either of those players are Di Canio, but good, experienced players willing to put the hard yards in are vital for building that culture amongst the players.
I'll buy Hylton for a fiver at the deadline. I'll make him clean the mildrew out of my shower and stuff. At least he'll have a purpose.
Harsh! He was brought in as cover and to coach and develop the youngsters. He wasn’t signed as an Alfie May replacement. Based on his job description and not hos goal scoring ability, it can definitely be argued that he has a purpose
I think it’s fair to assume he was encouraged to continue playing in order to cover for leaburn and aneke - both could easily have not made it this year and I agree that a forward as a coach is definitely something we don’t seem to have an abundance of - ever - maybe he could take over set piece duties as well as the fella handed the job to have a go at it this year doesn’t seem to be smashing it
I wonder if the ex-Luton player thing might also be to do with the fairly fragile state Jones must have been in after his Southampton and Stoke experiences. Maybe he needed some familiar faces around the place to back up his coaching ethos after failing pretty spectacularly away from Kenilworth Road. Maybe that’s why he talks about culture and how these two have helped to back up his ideas.
And maybe he feels he doesn’t need that so much, now he’s a year into the job and has his feet - and ideas - firmly under the table.
I don’t buy that he’s a clueless coach who is living in the past and couldn’t find a better striker than Hylton.
Not bothered really, not sure we need another Target Man
It is quite concerning for me, that we have been after him for quite a while, and even with his bad reviews, lack of game time, and lack of impact when playing, we were still after him.
Fair enough we have got it right with defenders in Mitchell, Ramsay, Edwards and Small, but whoever is looking at players elsewhere needs replacing. Gas and now this.
There is probably thousands of strikers better than Etete that we could attain, if we were looking.
I think either a) we weren't in for him this time and it's agent talk or b) he was thought of by Andy Scott as a short term replacement that allowed Ahadme to go out on loan.
Think Scott has shown he can't pick out a good attacking player, hopefully we fix that soon
Or a defender or a midfielder.
Would you not argue that Coventry, Edwards and Mitchell have been good signings?

Of course, forgetting all the other dross.
There have been less failures in those areas compared to attacking players though

Scott's been a failure here, do you not agree?
I’ve said that multiple times, I think that argument is stronger if you can admit the positive things he has done rather than pretending he’s never done a positive thing at all which is what a lot of people on here do

I'm not interested in any of his positives, of course there have been some. He should have been out of the door long ago.

Seems wise making a decision after the window slams shut, as we don’t know what injuries/ outrageous bids we may receive.

Leaburn, TC, Ahadme, Godden, Chuks, Kanu.
We are already very well stocked there when all are fully fit. The problem was that we had four of the six injured at some point already this season…
I do apologise, it was the news I was waiting for and mistakenly assumed so was everybody else.
one of the nicest thing someone has said for years.
