  • I wonder if some of the thinking is to have a squad that is more suited to being built on for next season. The chances of reaching the play offs and going up are less than 1 in 4, so clearing some space makes sense.

REG spent his three prior seasons in the Champ. I'm sure he's not content to be a squad player at this level.

To be fair, if we've managed to get a bit of a fee for REG that's probably some decent business

That would be the sort of outgoing where I'd expect both teams to just transfer the contract and save the hassle
How much did we pay for Reg?

It's baffling that we've left it all to the last minute though. I thought Jones likes getting things done early.
You do know that managers chat shit most of the time.

    It’s acting remember
You can’t be a football manager without a degree in drama🤷‍♂️
  • Reading fans slating McIntyre too.
  • Still trying to add one more.
It had better be for a fee, otherwise it smacks of cost cutting again.

Players out for a fee......players in on loan (when NJ says he doesn't like loans)

Sounds to me like the purse strings are being tightened.
None of the fees we've received will be significant, I imagine they're all nominal fees.
significant or not its still money coming in & none going out (apart from loan fees....but I doubt at our level that's very much)

So with REG and Z.Mitchell off, the back line is:

    AMB/Mannion
    Ramsay/Watson
    A.Mitchell/?
    Jones/?
    Gillesphey/McIntyre
    Edwards/Small

8 players for 5 places is slightly risky IMO
Seems Zach will stay, so not too bad. Gives him more of a pathway, he has far more potential than REG.
Cawley still believes he's on the way out (on loan)
Still driving up to Scotland for his photoshoot!
  • 23 minutes to a pacey winger Jones, come on chop chop we could be an injury away from TC or Small and that could be season over.

73 Reg, losing value in its first year
  • Was Hemed the signing that took about a week to be confirmed after deadline day?
  • Put this on the REG thread but fits better here:

This really has been a proper clear out! Money that tight or clearing the decks for a proper promotion push squad build in the summer?

And no real evidence of “quality” being added, we just have to hope they hit the ground running and show us what they can do

We'll need to... Cant see the current squad fighting for promotion to the Premier League next season... ;)

Mitchell can cover Jones role, Ramsay RCB, Small RWB. Plenty of options there even if not quite 2 per role. I'm more worried about CM where we have even less cover

  • I think I’d have preferred Riley Towler from Pompey. Also a left centre back they were looking to loan out. I’m guessing we had the choice of one or the other

TBF we haven't seen them play in red yet

Yep, and we don’t like developing other clubs players. So we bring in 2 loans on the last day :-)

Always take anything football people say with a pinch of salt
Bearing in mind of course we will not know what was discussed about the longer term.
Love the option to buy as a try before you buy and should drive up the players performance.

Pretty sure we were after him last year.  Was VERY highly rated when at Reading alongside the lad who went to Olympiakos whose name escapes me.

When I say highly rated - I'm sure he was rated at well over a million.

Are you sure you are not confusing him with Holmes?  McIntyre left Reading for £75K last Jan and their fans have very mixed opinions of him

Yeah, I’ve down some trawling back to what Reading fans were saying when he got sold to Pompey, and being polite, that didn’t scream highly rated.
  • Reading fans slating McIntyre too.
At least he's only a loan if he's crap, I guess.

Seems like Pompey fans were expecting it to be Towler too.
  • Zach confirmed to Bonny Scotland
  • Still hoping for that last attacking piece whether that's Tovide or someone else.
