The thing about Ecclestone is that he hates football. i'd rather we at least went for someone who has an interest in the sport and therefore less likely to get bored after a short period.

Ecclestone goes to Chlesea, so he can't like it too much! ;o)
He was actually quoted this week as saying he'd buy Arsenal right now if he could, but there's some kind of shareholders agreement not to sell till May 08.

He admitted on Sky last weekthat he previously said that if the two biggest clubs in the country were playing at the bottom of his garden he wouldn't have watched. i got the distinct impression that he sees lots of other billionaires buying clubs so he fancies doing it too. I don't think actions of our board are unusual apart from the timing seems strange. i'm sure they're just looking at what's best to keep the club healthy, and would only sell if it was the best thing to do. The world of football is changing and the club is right to recognise this and act accordingly.
[cite]Posted By: lucy lou[/cite]reading to much into this, charlton are not in trouble.
agreed. My take is we've made a good job of reducing the wage bill and stabilising outstanding debt and revenue streams, but we're now at a stage where we will get further board investment in the current structure of the board. Very different to being in trouble.
I suppose what we're looking for is a South London lad made good, probably made his money in say the mobile phone business.....
I was told a year ago by somebody that plays golf with him that Richard Murray had had enough of Charlton and wanted to get out. I posted as much here or on netaddicks if I remember rightly.
I suspect that all the hassle with managers has proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
[cite]Posted By: Daily Mail Website[/cite]The firm's chairman Keith Harris played a central role in Abramovich's 2003 purchase of Chelsea, along with the subsequent takeovers at Aston Villa and West Ham.
I'm a bit worried that we are asking advice off of someone who spends most of his day with his arm stuck up the arse of a green duck that wears a nappy.
Here's my take - we're actually well on the way to agreeing a sale and have made the announcement to pave the way for it. What happened to all that Middle East stuff a few months ago?
But please, not Bernie Ecclestone - the guy is a nasty, power-crazy piece of work.
Also helps explain some of the less 'charlton-like' behaviour recently...

pretty much how our see it Weegs, there is an interest and we are not very discreetly opening it to alert any other potential interested parties.
Charlton is in an ideal position to be bought, they own the ground and training ground, have a good manager, have also sold players for a good return and so are a good investment, They are also a good bet to get promoted and have a good fan base. Seymour pierce are specialist in pushing through the sale of clubs so Overseas investment is probably looming. This is the reality of football today, just a question of time, maybe Murray with his other business interests wants to move on,Reckon Weegie addick is spot on.
'However, they added that the club might also be attractive as a property deal as it owns its south London ground plus other facilities.'
This is what worries me. How do we know that any new owners won't then decide to sell the ground, develop the land , and decide to ground share with Palace - or move us to another Milton Keynes?
Guy from a Football finance company who said we would be perfect for a takeover.
I said, that I was happy with the idea of a takeover, and sometimes you need to end something to progress on, that any firm needed to have serious money, and not be mortgaging season tickets.
Do CAFC own the ground? AFKA Bartram said on an earlier post that the Murray family own it (obviously still could be included in a sale), the training ground is owned by a charitable trust which Charlton established. In 2005/6 the club lost £5M which was covered by shareholders. That was before Dowie spent £11M (and Pards spending). The money we got from Darren Bent just about replaces the Dowie spend.
I personally think the board are making enquiries, the club valuation has decreased from £80M to £50M following relegation. One option would be to relist the shares and issue more - would fans want to buy? I would.
Doesn't really matter if murray owns the ground or not, if it's sold then we move forward. Would like to think that murray would still attend games as a fan and would have an input/say on how the club has been run.

Yeah, nice comment - let's get the Russian mafia involved, or possibly a tinpot dictator. What's Colonal Gaddafi up to these days? Word was that he liked his football.
I can't believe I'm reading comments on here about us "moving to the next level" again. What "next level"? It doesn't exist.
Anyone who isn't even slightly worried about all this needs their head looking at.
I want the club to keep progressing, if it needs investment from new owner or new investors, then so be it, and I trust Murray and co to pick the right buyers for the future.
Even at Championship level, teams are spending more and more, even without parachute payments, Wolves and Hull's new owners aren't going to keep their cheque books in their pockets.
I seem to recall that the Murray family do own The Valley not so sure about the the training ground but it does not matter if he sells and make some dosh fair play to him after all it is a business

R. Murray 24.6%
R. Whitehead 10.9%
D Chappell 10.7%
D Sumners 5.2%
G Franklin 4.0%
Unsure if RMs holding includes the other members of his family. I suspect not, so would expect the Murray holding to be somewhere between 25-30%.
