Anglo Italian Cup 1993/4

Whilst visiting a friend in Milan I mentioned that I went to Brescia to watch Charlton play. He went on to YouTube and found the video of the match. It just happened they i appeared a couple of times in the video; on boarding the plane and drinking a beer. Photo taken of me raising my glass but can anyone recognise the other two?

  • Do you have a link to the video?

Need to add it to the museum's archive if we don't have it already

    Incredible video.

Coming from someone who isn't very well spoken, I love how well spoken people were back then. The air stewardess (in particular the first one) spoke with such grace.

300 or so over, and I wonder how many it would have been now? I think if we were to participate in a cup setting abroad we would take a few thousand.
  • No cheap flights back then, so I would expect it would be a much bigger turn out now
  • The first competitive European away will get a very decent following, even if it was in some mickey mouse cup.
  • What a video

  • some proper faces i'd forgotten about from travelling away with Charlton back in the day
didn't make this one but the Ancona trip was interesting but I was properly hammered by kick off time

Doubt we would take a bigger turn out today.

What you must remember is the CASC arranged coach travel and hotels for that game.
Think the football club it’s self arrange the flight that was on the video.

It was a very good turn out of fans at the time when the club were still trying to find there feet after the Selhurst and Upton Park years.

And we were a decent Championship side back then too, not a mediocre L1 team.
  • I wonder if I'll ever see Charlton in a European competition in my lifetime? I'll say it's very unlikely.

I wonder if we will ever even get back to the Prem sometimes.
  • Half hour train from Milan, travel piece of piss and cheap as hell flights.

but it’s hard to rate the tournaments (in)significance , it’s my dream to see us play abroad but equally if it was a JPT game against Brescia or Ancona … it’s still not gonna capture the imagination

I wonder if we'll see us in the Championship again in your lifetime. I'm going to go with - no.
  • I went on the coach , It seemed to take for ever getting home.

I donn't know, you had to go via the CASC then, now you would just book a flight to Verona or Milan and travel on your own steam at a cheaper price
The second game in Ancona some of the guys arranged independent travel.
Lots of detail , into Rome ,hotel. Second day travel to east coast by train (AnconaOnce again hotel then train to Rimini and hotel. Finally catching flight back from Bologna.

Had to wait for England supporters coming out of Rotterdam to travel on ferry before we could board ferry.

  • Pretty sure club laid a flight on for Ancona , well the players were on our flight home and there was some verbals with Darren Pitcher

  • I would have loved to have gone, but just didn't have the money at the time.

Just received this photo of me and me 30 years ago boarding the plane to Bergamo.

Looks like Curly from Coronation Street.

Definitely not, everybody had to go under their own steam.
  • Went by coach to Brescia and plane to Ancona that the club chartered. Both memorable trips which will last a lifetime. Ancona was the first time I met ooh ah I think 😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • Darren Ambrosetti with both the goals

the charlton players came over and i threw my t shirt at them and you got one of them to lob it back and you put it on  :D:D
  • Where has that 30 years gone - and what happened to that younger version of me ....... :-(
