MATCH THREAD: Southend Utd v Charlton Athletic: FACR1 Saturday 2nd Nov 2024: KO 15:00 [+post p24]

So, the glory road to Wembley starts today, with a first round trip to Roots Hall to take on Southend Utd.

Gassan Ahadme returned to training prior to last weekend’s draw against Wrexham, while the club are awaiting news on Tennai Watson’s hamstring scan, ( we already know where that one's going don't we) Kayne Ramsay (knee), Lloyd Jones (leg) and Daniel Kanu (ankle) remain sidelined.

The Shrimpers currently sit 14th in the National League table, four points adrift of the play-off places. and are unbeaten in their last four outings, claimed a 2-0 triumph against Tamworth last weekend.

We've played Southend on 48 previous occasions winning 27, the Shrimpers 10 and the remaining 11 meetings resulting all square, the spoils were shared at The Valley in a 1-1 draw when the sides last met back in February 2019.

We shall be wearing the yellow kit today, and no doubt cheered on by a good following as usual, you've got to feel confident today...haven't you, round 2 here we come🤦‍♂️

Audio only today and no (legal) live stream allowed in the cup...

Nathan Jones has made four changes from Charlton’s last league outing for this afternoon’s Emirates FA Cup clash against Southend United at Roots Hall.

    Very strong team that

  • Danny Hylton's having a party
    Kicking kids and drinking Shandy's!!
  • Interesting? That's the first team but looks like ZMitchell at right back which is fun? No Asiimwe anywhere either so we're really leaning in to that as a choice
  • Has Z Mitchell ever played RB before?
  • 4-4-2 box midfield, Zach Mitchell being eased in at RB. Good to test him there to see if he’s a better option than Watson or REG.

Woukd love us to be comfortably winning so Dixon can get a decent run out but this is Charlton against a lower division team in a cup game, so probably not.
  • No Tyreece Campbell
  • Suspect the Z Mitchell thing might be so we can change to a back 3 in possession with Edwards pushing high

  • No Tyreece? Injured?
  • Captain choice is interesting. Godden chosen over Berry.

Because the club captain has been dropped, again!
  • 3rd time the club captain has been dropped. How the hell has he been playing championship football?
  • Hopefully Tyreece is just being rested rather than having an injury. At least that saves Tel from having double Double Trouble on the commentary.

I did think he and A. Campbell wouldn't start, as they put in a full shift on Tuesday.

    Leaburn just needs the minutes.

Looks like a 4-4-2 box Midfield and hopefully enough to beat a team two divisions below.

I like playing with width but let's see how it pans out today against NT CB's.

I will stick with 1-3 but if a two goal margin I would prefer a professional 0-2 with a clean sheet and Leaburn and Godden scoring the goals.

Despite a couple of mistakes by Zach Mitchell in the game against Chelsea, pleased he gets another chance because he has the potential to break through.
Still raw but you learn in 1st team football.
  • Taylor & Bonne up front for them 😄

  • So we recall Asimwe & then don't play him.

    Hartlepool (?) will be impressed.
  • Looking at that team and squad, all I can say is for once we have a manager who takes the Cup seriously.

In fairness, it makes a nice change.
  • Just can't get my head round audio only...will keep an eye on the latest score site, without visual, Brownie could prove a step too far...🤦‍♂️
  • Live feed anyone?
  • 1800 reported travelling Addicks, great turn out...

We played him against Chelsea U21s.
