Amazing. Thought he was awesome from the day he first signed for us, certainly didn't expect what was to come. Won't use the cliche but Chris Powell is an absolute credit to the game, both on and off the field.
I first saw Chris Powell when he was at Crystal Palace when he was the one young player at a business meeting at Selhurst. My wife ( girlfriend at the time) firm was sponsoring and I took the Oohaah approach and will drink with the enemy if push comes to shove; Though not on a match day !
I was more Sue Parkes and enjoyed the Vol-au-vents on offer. As Palace were my nearest League club (now Bromley at Ben Hayes lane) and being younger I went with my better half but the only words I can remember saying to Chris Powell that evening were "good luck with your career" normally I then talk the hind legs off a donkey but not being my team I focused on food and felt no shame in asking for a doggy bag.
Back to MBE Chris Powell: I did have a gut feeling that our paths would cross again but I put that down to the crab sticks.
CP had a great career as a player, coach and manager and marvelous that out of his 667 apps as a player only 3 were for Palace, 247 for CAFC and 248 for our cup opponents this weekend Southend.

He may have been to the palace (or was it castle?) but don’t remind him about Palace! He kept that v quiet at Charlton and only time I saw him a bit annoyed (completely tongue in cheek of course) was after I mentioned his stripey history to Rhoys Wiggins…who was very surprised and relieved that he wasn’t the only one with that dark secret.
Could not be more delighted. Today MBE, yesterday (and tomorrow?) KBE.
a fabulous man and what he did in building that team in just one summer window must go down as one of the greatest pieces of football management of all time - i wouldn't be surprised to see him back at the valley some time

every year we've attempted re builds and nothing has come even close to that season , it was a miracle and we wont ever accomplish that again , Sir Chris our chosen One , the miracle worker

One of my biggest regrets - if not my biggest - during many years of supporting Charlton is Douchbag not letting him finish what he had started here.
