MANNION: 6 unfortunate with that bouncing ball for the pen but he had to come out and make a decision. Pen? I’m not too sure
RAMSAY: 7 brilliant with the ball at his feet and extremely athletic. Hopefully the injury isn’t as bad as first feared
A.MITCHELL: 7 solid. To be expected from him now
GILLESPHEY: 6.5 should never have let the ball bounce but solid otherwise
EDWARDS: 6.5 steady performance. He has a knack for being in the right position to head away crosses at the back post.
DOCHERTY: 6 few lazy passes. Didn’t look at it. Not a skippers performance
TAYLOR: 6.5 better dead ball deliveries than we’ve seen recently but did dwell on the ball in the defensive third but he is always looking to play the killer ball.
ANDERSON: 6 off the ball he’s brilliant but simple passes going astray too often. Frustrating player.
A.CAMPBELL: 5.5 didn’t look at it. Disappointing
T.CAMPBELL: 7 always looked a threat.
GODDEN: 6.5 nothing really fell for him but he just needs that ‘one chance’.
R.E.G.: 7 grafter and scored.
BERRY: 6.5 took up clever positions going forward and links up play well with the forwards.
LEABURN: 6.5 looked a threat but a tad rusty which is to be expected.
Referee: 1 lost the plot with plenty of strange decisions - I’m pretty sure he booked NJ who was having a go at Anderson for an absolute hospital pass. Young lad next to me was wishing and I quote ‘I hope the ref’s wife and kids have left him by the time he gets home tonight’ not sure I quite agree with that sentiment but calling the ref a c*nt would have been sufficient… as I’m sure many of us did 👀
MANNION: 7 RAMSAY: 7 A.MITCHELL: 7 GILLESPHEY: 6 EDWARDS: 7 DOCHERTY: 5 TAYLOR: 8 ANDERSON: 7.5 A.CAMPBELL: 7 T.CAMPBELL: 8 GODDEN: 6.5 R.E.G.: 7 BERRY: 6 LEABURN: 7.5 Referee: 0...must be the worst ever seen at The Valley, lucky not to get a minus figure
MANNION: 6 Mistake for the penalty but overall I quite like him. Good catches. RAMSAY: 6 Was trying to get forward. A.MITCHELL: 6 Not the greatest in the air but positionally quite sound. GILLESPHEY: 6 Another one who struggles in the air because he doesn't attack the ball. Hit one magnificent cross-field ball. EDWARDS: 6 Quiet game. Didn't get forward a great deal. DOCHERTY: 5 If his role is to get the ball and pass backwards, then ok. If not, then not ok. TAYLOR: 7.5 Incisive passing and covered a lot of ground for someone out for so long. Looks the best technically that we have. ANDERSON: 7 Rough edges but perhaps just starting to show some real development. On another day, he'd get a couple of goals. A.CAMPBELL: 4 I'm not sure what his role was. Totally ineffective. T.CAMPBELL: 7 Prepared to have a go and was decent when moved to the left. GODDEN: 5 - Hardly noticed him. Anderson should have played him in, instead of Campbell in the 1st half. R.E.G.: 7 Did well...especially as he hasn't featured regularly. BERRY: 6 - A little bit more forward thinking than some of the others. LEABURN: 7 - No goals but at least he was worth watching. If he stays fit, can't see him staying in January. Referee: 5 - A mixed bag. It looked a pen from where I was sitting. A few soft fouls but he did at least get the book out for some time-wasting and dished the red for the late foul.
Dixon: n/a - Smaller than I expected. Nice energy to get up from deep in our half to set Leaburn away.
MANNION: - 6 Little to do. Unlike others here, I think he was let down by his defenders for the penalty.
RAMSAY: - 7 As always, looked one of our biggest threats. Had skinned his opposite number a number of times while he was on. The 2nd time this season we've lost a full back to a "professional" foul.
A.MITCHELL: - 6 Not as commanding as recently. Also, failure of communication led to the penalty, and at least one other mistake in the first half, again due to poor communication. It makes you realise how much Jones has an impact.
GILLESPHEY: - 5.5 See above. But he's slower than AM. At least he didn't try any of his hopeful cross field punts.
EDWARDS: - 7 Solid. Much more reliable as a proper full back than the more mercurial Small. Knows how to defend, and decent in the air.
DOCHERTY: - 5 Disappointing. After a decent performance against Birmingham, this was a big step backwards. Negative passing backwards, that often put his teammates in trouble. Often the passes were overhit, or underhit.
TAYLOR: - 8 MOTM A very good performance. Looked for progressive passes. Hit a lovely ball with the outside of his right foot in the first half. Lots of good set pieces. Tired unsurprisingly towards the end. If NJ is going to persist with box midfield, I'd like to see him line up with Coventry. I don't think they're incompatible.
ANDERSON: - 6.5 Dogged performance. Doesn't hide, and does a great deal of hard work. Needs to be a bit braver. Has a decent finish on him, and needs to help the team more by trying to score.
A.CAMPBELL: - 4.5 Very disappointing. See comments on Docherty. His last action was to get to the ball first, tread on it, and let it go out for a Stockport throw.
T.CAMPBELL: - 7 His pace gave the Stockport defenders' nightmares. The major problem is, he fails as a striker. Too many times, Godden won a header, but TC was too far away from him. And I'm not sure he works if we play the box midfield. Probably needs a goal.
GODDEN: - 7 Determined, often plowing a lone furrow against some big defenders. I still think he's the best finisher at the club, if chances fall his way.
R.E.G.: - 6.5 Solid if unspectacular. Scored the equaliser by being in the right place, and showing a calm finish. Which is one of his best traits. Never seems flustered. Doesn't really have the pace to bomb up and down the wing. A reliable replacement.
BERRY: - 6 Came on, and did a decent job. We didn't need a box-to-box midfielder, because Stockport weren't doing a great deal of attacking. We needed a canny midfielder to find pockets of space, and show some clever passing. He did that very well.
LEABURN: - 6 Excellent. (Yes, I know it's quite a low score!) How some think they can criticise his finishing, after a year out, is beyond me. Yes, he looked rusty, which is not surprising. Pace? Good enough. Dribbling? Good enough. Hold up play? Good enough. Heading? Good enough. All those "good enoughs" add up to the best all around forward at the club. Can't wait to see a fully fit Miles starting week in, week out, with Godden. I think that's going to be very 'tasty'...
I don't score referees, but I have some comments. That was a total "game of two halves" performance. Was happy to let Stockport time waste all through the first half. (In fact, there was an occasion, where he seemed to join in!) Within 5 minutes of the second half, he was berating the players, and showing yellow cards to Stockport players. I can only assume someone had said something to him at half time. A real "Jekyll and Hyde" performance.
A.MITCHELL: 6 - Almost caught/ lost possession the few times he tried to bring it out, not his game and trying to fill the Jones role. Other than that fine.
GILLESPHEY: 5 - No idea what he's supposed to do, and I mean he has no idea, not me.
EDWARDS: 6 - Pretty solid, one excellent whipped ball in.
DOCHERTY: 5 - Nothing stood out so straight down the middle.
TAYLOR: 8 - Impressive, set piece delivery, forward passes and covered plenty of ground.
ANDERSON: 6 - Harasses well.
A.CAMPBELL: 5 - Nothing stood out so straight down the middle.
T.CAMPBELL: 6.5 - meh first half, much better second, just play him wide or a free role behind.
GODDEN: 6.5 - As we all can see, needs a proper strike partner. Better once Leaburn came on.
R.E.G.: 6 - Handles himself very well, no real complaints.
BERRY: 7 - Made a big impact, set piece delivery was good and tried to make things happen.
LEABURN: 6 - Improved once he came on but some meh decision making. Dunno, think he tries to go it alone a bit much.
MANNION: 6 RAMSAY: 6 A.MITCHELL: 6.5 GILLESPHEY: 6 EDWARDS: 6 DOCHERTY: 5.5 TAYLOR: 7 ANDERSON: 7.5 tremendous energy. MANNION: 6 RAMSAY: 7 A.MITCHELL: 7 GILLESPHEY: 6 EDWARDS: 7 DOCHERTY: 6.5 TAYLOR: 7.5 - Significant upgrade on the free kicks and corners we have seen in previous matches. Play him! ANDERSON: 6 - I'd love to mark him higher because you can't criticise his effort but he needs to improve his distribution A.CAMPBELL: 5 - Really isn't cutting it for me T.CAMPBELL:7.5 - Always better in the second half when the opposition are tiring and he has the support of a big CF GODDEN: 6 R.E.G.: 7 BERRY: 7.5 LEABURN: 8 - Great cameo.
