Is his new found desire to actually be a footballer instead of a complete waster, down to his realisation no-one wants him or is he busting a gut for a few weeks to try and seal a last ditch deadline day move to a premier side?

Let's give the guy a bit of credit, he's admitted his failings and wants to do something about it. It sounds like he's been brainwashed by the "Cult of Pards"!
Everyone knows I wasn't a massive fan of him last season - but credit where it's due - he certainly seems to have lifted his game recently.
Also Danielle Lloyd was in the weeks OK mag - and the latest is that they are no longer an item - that also may have played a part in him realising that he is actually a Pro Footballer so he needed to start playing like one!
As said, time to give him a break and get behind the guy. We were rightly critical of his contribution last year, but he seems to have got his head down and is getting his reward. Some say a leopard never changes his spots, but we shall wait and see.
The proof will be whether he can keep it going for more than a couple of games, and if he does we should all be delighted.
I felt that under Pards last season he generally performed well, although the goals didn't come. Hopefully he is going to concentrate on his football this season, as Pards said it is a very big season for him. He could be our 20 goal man this season.
i think a lot of people may have forgotten, maybe even marcus himself, that he's actually a talented footballer...a year in the championship where he's clearly head and shoulders above most defenders he's going to come up against could well do wonders for him, boost his on-field confidence no end and remind everybody just how good he can be...it wouldn't surprise me if he gets 20-25 goals this season and lays on just as many for the others, though i suspect come the january window one or two premiership managers might start thinking he could do a job for them...
I've already said that he was my MOTM on Saturday. I didn't see the game last night but it sounds as if he had another good one. I seriously think he's trying to play for the team as opposed to himself this season. I think getting relegated hit him hard last season and its dawned on him that he could be responsible for taking us back into the top flight. I have faith in him.
I think that the fact that there was no interest in him from the Prem after our relegation is actually what hit him hard. Didn't look to me like he could give a toss about whether we were relegated or not last season.
I think he's a mediocre prem striker who could be an asset in this division so long as his improved attitude doesn't turn out to be a false dawn. If he's going to give 100% every week though then you can't ask more than that of a player and he may just be a worthwhile guy to have around.
I can exclusively reveal an entry in Marcus Bent's diary from 12/06/07:
I woke and some force dragged me to the mirror - the physical experience seemed familiar, but it wasn't to my mind. Who was this man before me? When did I get a tattoo of my own name? Where had all this shiny jewellery come from? I checked the date and quickly rang Moyesey to see what the plans where for pre-season training. "You play for Charlton now mate, lay off the charley will ya." I had no idea who this "Charley" fellow was - am I into men? I checked the internet for match reports involving me over the past two seasons and I panicked. I took the all the vests, the sunglasses, the Crytsal and the hip hop records to the garden and burnt them. I searched for the real me and found it in the loft. Out came the elasticated waist slacks, the bobble hats, the Captain Sensible LP's and most importantly of all my "How to win a football match" by Musta Triarder book. I am reborn. Charlton will see the true Marcus Bent from now on.
PS: Good luck to him. If he comes good, I'll be cheering.

Oi Henry, I think you've been away too long.
Something strange has happened.
Marcus finally seems to have realised that footballers have to first focus on football.
And that the Wags Shags must be given up or at least be discreet.
Step forward the new Marcus Bent - his form and contribution has been a revelation.
At least by his standards.
So credit where it's due.
Unless it's merely a false dawn, of course.

He may well respond with 20 goals this season.
Then he'll be a hero.
Sorry, Salad - our posts crossed there!
