Still think he’s massively in credit and no other manager would be able to compete in the championship with our current squad but I do think he needs to be more flexible when it comes to adapting and timing of substitutions can be iffy.
  • No more Bluewater or Costa Coffee for the rest of the year!!

We need to be alert now. The situation is more dismal than what I expected it to be!!

We won’t fire him, tied him down to a 5 year contract before the season. The owners have made their bed, whatever happens he will be our manager come end of season
    Good.

Even if the worst happens and we got relegated (I don’t think that will happen), who would you rather have as manager? Nathan Jones is our manager and he should be our manager for years to come

Wouldn’t go that far, but I believe Johnnie Jackson would do well under this ownership and investment!

Just over 13 months ago, the majority of comments on this thread were calling for Jones to be sacked because we were certs to be relegated to league 2 under his management. 8 months ago he became the messiah who could do no wrong.

This season was always going to be a struggle against relegation. The 3-0 away win at Ipswich gave absurd hopes we could challenge for a play off place ( we were lucky not be 3-0 down before we scored our first ).

Before the start of the season, I stated on another thread that I would accept finishing 4th from bottom. We are on course for that and if we do that, it’s job done.

I can’t believe some of the bedwetting I’ve seen in the past hours. “He has to go”… “he’s lost the dressing room”… “we’re certain for the drop if we don’t make a change now”. It’s all incredible, how have people not learnt over the past 10 years that we’re extremely lucky to have Nathan Jones in charge of our football club.

We’ve had a disastrous injury crisis which is now just clearing up as we go into another transfer window. We’ve had abysmal form for a couple of months and we’re still 5 points clear of 22nd WITH a game in hand!

I’m normally the most pessimistic person in the world, but I’m confident the form will pick up and we’ll be fine.

We need to stick with Jones, he has plenty of credit in the bank.

He saved us from relegation and turned things around after the Crawley home game last season.

Who is to say that a new manager would be an improvement in our current situation.

It’s the same situation as last season. We built this squad for Nathan Jones, so if you give it to a manager that isn’t Nathan Jones they will probably do worse

I don't think we should sack him, and I don't think any other manager would have gotten us promoted last season.

I do, however, think that other managers would have gotten us points in our last 2 matches.
  • It’s too early to sack him. But if we’re in February and this has continued, then we should look elsewhere.

On a side note I’ll never get used to this term, ‘bedwetting’ to describe anyone worried about a situation. It’s weird.

We've gone full circle and turned into the side Jones inherited when he first turned up.

A league up now I know, but he's going to have to find some of that steel that he found before.

It’s crazy to even think about changing the manager .. what’s a new manager going to do with the injury list we have .. NJ will still be in charge even if we did drop into league one which I have read will be a disaster .. no it won’t people have very short memories.. we got promoted a year sooner then planned , we lost 3/4 week's of our pre- season … new signings all arrived late. .

  • In my opinion, it would be madness to sack him.

We have 2 first teamers injured Godden and Edwards plus Ramsay for 2 weeks.
I expect most Championship clubs have more than that.

I expect most Championship clubs have built strength in depth. We have our first team and then what should be reserves.

  • Completely acceptable to question Jones over the last 2 performances, but completely unacceptable to think he deserves sacking after 2 poor games. The run from Wrexham-Middlesborough hard to blame him with the injuries and quality of opposition
  • NJ's taken a caning rightly or wrongly after that. He didn't though tell the team to switch off, fuck about and concede to lose the game. The players owe the supporters a performance against Coventry.

Complete madness. The players still playing for him, once we hit a bit of form we get out of this.

Nice to land on a thread without some of the hysteria going on elsewhere on social media. Losing to a 98th minute winner after we seemed to have nicked a draw was a real sucker punch. It still hurts. But thank Christ some of the Charlton fans screaming for Jones to be sacked aren't in management situations with any business I enjoy. We cannot go back to the revolving door for managers we've had over the last decade. Almost nobody thought this season would be comfy. So get behind Jones and the team.

The issue is NJ teams strangle the life out of opponents by keeping it tight and sheer hard work. Performances like yesterday that lacked that hard work leads to a terrible performance. For us when it works it’s great as we will get results to keep us up but I can see why other teams that want progressive attractive football have parted company with him as he won’t be delivering any of that. That’s not a criticism as at the moment it’s what we need
I would agree with this. But what it also says to me is that Jones' job is to establish us in The Championship but if we have genuine ambition to progress to a challenging side/Prem then he is probably not our man long-term.

Good point and Jones still has massive credit alongside our owners for where we are now compared to a year ago.
I do worry that in the January window there will be clubs who will not want to loan players to us because of Jones personality and his preferred style of play.
In addition any player with a choice in January might go against us because of Jones personality and approach to tactics. We will be in the market for more cheap high energy scrappers rather than the necessary class and quality to keep us up. Still - in Jones we have to trust eh?
  • Hopefully, JRC 's display tonight is Jones' Thiery Small at RWB moment from last season.
Could also be this season’s Alex Gilbert - a player with obvious ability above what we have but for some reason jones just doesn’t trust.

Think this has all been blown way out of proportion. The number of people calling for him to be sacked is miniscule and most of them are either known to be trolls or idiots. There are questions to be asked about some of the recruitment over summer and the lack of flexibility to change things when it's going wrong, but the overwhelming majority of fans remain behind NJ and the team and will continue to do so.

We'd all be happy with 21st place come the end of the season, but important to remember that a 21st place season will be miserable on a week to week basis so there will inevitably be some moaning.

Turned it around 12 months ago and needs to do it again. Will need help from the ownership in January to assist in that and what will be a tricky second half of the season.

The Last 9 games have been a wake up call for everyone at the football club.

    Stand up and be counted

100% behind NJ - would be a massive mistake to sack him - the club / owners know the score and hopefully know what’s needed - doubt they’ve even contemplated sacking him

Completely agree, surely we know of all fans that getting rid the minute things get difficult isn’t the way to go, on top of that whether people like him or not he has dragged this club up from the depths of despair and made people want to go and get excited to get to the valley again, he’s been unlucky with injuries a bit stubborn but has plenty of credit to deserve patience especially with the window opening, but the question nobody can answer is to what end is the board going to help him? As the original plan going into the season is having mixed results. Some of the players being written off already also need support and a bit of time because that is what we bought with the view of improving them. We/NJ needs the ability to bring in players that will help the team as it stands and also the younger prospects we have bought and that are coming through. It’s not the best window to be buying but astute business needs to be done. But IMO NJ should not be considered in jeopardy of his job.
