Another 0-4 coming up, I can feel it in me bones🤔...

...or is it the arthritis playin' up agin
  • Direct train and Deepdale is a great looking ground.

Only positives I can think of

Here's a picture I took in the museum back in August of the old FA Cup.

  • And that Ladies and Gentlemen concludes season 24/25.

The next disappointment to look forward to is the January transfer window when either we wave goodbye to our few prospects or welcome some more obscure signings who will flatter to deceive.

    Bar humbug 😉☹️
Nonsense, We can still have a run in the cup that really matters, the Leyland Daf, Pizza John, Bristol Street Motors or whatever it is called now cup.

We're only a handful of games away from Wembley in that.

That journey will end in 8 days time 😆

  • A superb draw, just not for us or Preston. A lot of Charlton fans head's will be turned by Bromley's draw.

  • Tremendously Charlton like draw.  Not for us a glamorous third round money spinning tie, no.

For once, we cruise through an early round and now it's all set up for... Meh!

  • They haven’t won any of their last 9 games and are not that far above us in the footy pyramid. We must have a chance in a one off match surely

This sounds like a time warp back to when we drew Walsall, and what they were probably saying at the time....
  • Last fifteen season of Charlton in the FA Cup…

23/24: 2nd round (beat Cray Valley PM, lost to Gillingham)
22/23: 2nd round (beat Coalville, lost to Stockport)
21/22: 3rd round (beat Havant & W and Gateshead, lost to Norwich)
20/21: 1st round (lost to Plymouth)
19/20: 3rd round (lost to West Brom)
18/19: 2nd round (beat Mansfield, lost to Doncaster)
17/18: 2nd round (beat Truro, lost to Wimbledon)
16/17: 2nd round (beat Scunthorpe, lost to MK Dons)
15/16: 3rd round (lost to Colchester)
14/15: 3rd round (lost to Blackburn)
13/14: 6th round (beat Oxford, Huddersfield and Sheff Wed, lost to Sheff Utd)
12/13: 3rd round (lost to Huddersfield)
11/12: 3rd round (beat Halifax and Carlisle, lost to Fulham)
10/11: 3rd round (beat Barnet and Luton, lost to Spurs)
09/10: 1st round (lost to Northwich Victoria)

When was the last time we were knocked out in the 4th Round? I seem to remember getting knocked out in the 5th Round at Villa many years ago. Was that our last 5th Round exit?
We’ve struggled to get past the 3rd round in the last 10 years , a shocking record, but sums up a bang average mid table league one side.

I think that is in Manchester now.
I think that’s what he meant!
  • Winnable dross

Given we need to focus on the league at the moment to try and turn the season around, that draw away to Preston is probably very good for us. Its so unglamorous nobody is going to be distracted by it but at the same time it is winnable on the day if Nathan gets it right and we most likely will take a decent following up there for the match.
  • Been to Preston once to watch us play and we lost 2-1 after a very Charlton type performance. Not tempted by this.
  • I think I’m the only person who thinks this isn’t a terrible draw. We could have got much worse and they are a relative out of form Champ team. If we have any aspirations to kick on in the 2nd half of the season it will be good to be see how far off Championship level our team is and if any of our players look capable at that level
  • Does anyone remember the great Tom Finney?  I remember seeing him play at the Valley but don’t recall if he ever scored against us.

I remember a player with the same name who kicked Graham Tutt in the face thus ending his Career.

I'll go for Rob McElhenney's grass collection (including that penalty shot Mark Goldbridge was showing off on his show).
  • Talking about our boy Goldbridge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLA10f9_43o) - he truly is one of our own
  • Points aren’t at stake, nothing to lose, as long as we’re mindful of injuries I would like us to go all out, don’t worry too much about defending and don’t get caught offside.
  • Feels ‘winnable’ at least.
i'd be keen to know when was the last time we knocked out a side from a higher division away from home.

    Only one knobhead mate.
  • As every season passes I'm getting more convinced they are staring to rig the draw. Every 3rd or 4th round draw there seems to be at least 2 big all Premiership games. Its always Arsenal v Man U or Liverpool v Man U.

They ask Deon Dublin to mix the balls & all he does is swirl then around. All that does is moves them along the bowl. You need to get your hand in, take a handful & really shake them around.

Dublin must have pulled out half a dozen balls in the 40's on the trot. Watch the draw back.

Seen quite a few Arsenal fans moaning (shock) about their cup draws. In the last 3 seasons they've now drawn Man City, Liverpool and Man U.

Quite surprisingly since winning it in 2020 they've not gone beyond the 4th round.

Away to Preston, as dull as it gets

    Coventry away in 2000 perhaps.
  • As poor a draw as I expected. No big payday, no TV coverage and no chance of progressing. So Charlton it hurts...
With full understanding that this is Charlton we are talking about…

The way NJ has us set up to combat sides with better players comparative to the average League One (Bolton, Birmingham for example) gives me confidence that we could steal a win up there for once.

Unlikely but my feeling is that it’s definitely a possibility.
