The North Stand will almost certainly be your area, and capacity is 800 max at the moment because the old girl that is Roots Hall is more than a bit crumbly. Our new consortium owners are working their nuts off to renovate the ground but I fear our cup game will be too early for North Stand improvements. I'm really hopeful that Mr Bonne will take his opportunity to shine for 90 minutes and show us that there is a good player in there just waiting his moment (you lot). We've had a lot of upheaval over the last few years and some big player departures and injuries have affected our 'very hard to beat' spirit of last season. Nevertheless, we'll turn up and give you a decent game hopefully without our keeper decking any of yours (that was a bit of a lively game, wasn't it). Please feel free to feel sorry for us and let us progress to round 2 as we need the dosh.

To be fair to the bloke, his positioning and nous is streets above National League, but if those around him don't understand what he wants then it just looks rubbish to those of us watching. The ethos of Southend teams over the last 2/3 seasons has been high press and quick one touch triangles. Macauley has yet to show us the hard work necessary for that style of football. So, thinking about it again, I reckon we will get well and truly rinsed by you Div 1 chaps. I was checking who was around when we last met, and everyone on the pitch has now gone except Jason Demitriou who hung up his boots this season and has now moved over to our coaching team. I really miss our trips to the Valley with the friendly policemen on the big horses, and, of course, your X Ray team that always felt it necessary to carry out some of our more tanked up supporters. Truthfully the NL is absolutely a terrible place to be, but we only have ourselves to blame.
When I look back to that early 90 period when we used to play each other in the Championship, you had some cracking players then @Rootshallbloke ; Chris Powell, Ansah, Otto, Brett Angel, Spencer Prior, Dean Austin, Keith Jones, Collymore etc.
Mate, I’d just turned 15 for that game in 1991. Was in there early playing pool with our lot when the strippers first come out. I’d only just started getting into boozers and drinking and felt fast tracked that day to adulthood. Said to my pal last night i remember a girl giving some skinheads head a polish and another giving someone’s glasses a very unhygienic clean. Then after the game with all the trouble (I think with Arsenal). Crazy what we used to get up to as teens.
My lad at 14 1/2 will be just shy age wise as I was that day when we go there in a few weeks. He’ll get a Fanta in a quiet friendly pub and then a Greggs if he’s lucky!

The two pubs nearest the ground, The Blue Boar and the Spread Eagle, are now both home supporters only. The Railway, immediately by Prittlewell station, welcomes well behaved away fans. Similarly, the West Road Tap allows away fans in, but as it is a converted public toilet, it struggles for space pre game. A shame as it is probably the best for decent beers. Other than that, it's the pubs in the high street, which is about a 20 minute walk to the ground. For those that have been to the Hall before, the Fish House chippy is thriving and as popular as ever, but the queues can be mega.

Could try Westcliff Drinks Co on Hamlet Court Road and walk from there. The Hamlet Court is ok as well. I drink in Leigh on Sea, so bit far to make it for 3pm kick off…

Would have thought Southend Charlton was a better pick than Northampton. Whilst a localish derby with Northampton at home there is less chance of a giant killing while us away at Southend could be, although hopefully not.
Nah that Northampton Kettering game is huge. It's the Wrexham game that shouldn't be on there but was always going to be picked.
I get Birmingham and Wrexham are currently the new Salford, but a stark reminder of how far we’ve fallen that us v Southend is seen as less attractive to a TV audience than Northampton, Lincoln and Huddersfield
Wrexham is the one that surprises me, because last season BBC Wales (S4C) simply streamed their games on BBC iPlayer with Welsh Commentary - I know its ITV showing them on this occasion, but could have opted to stream someone else, with Wrexham still getting shown on another channel.
Northampton vs Kettering a slight surprise given its League vs Non-League, but they showed with Charlton vs Cray Valley last season that they're moving away from that formula in certain cases, although I could have sworn Kettering were drawn as the home team.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if someone like ESPN+ choose to broadcast our match... as they did the Gillingham game
