Video of the stadium capacity increase that never happened

What about the garden of remembrance?
  • Great video, not exactly what was planned though. Shame it never happened but nothing embarrassing about having a master plan for the ground. It would have been something very special with each stand being different, something that's rare for modern builds.
  • I presume that is no longer a viable option, what with the selling off of properties up by the Sam Bartram?
Mind you, can you imagine if we'd been saddled with a 40k+ stadium for the last 15+ years.
    Just a pipedream now.
  • The most realistic thing that can happen is the rebuilding of the JS, and maybe filling in the corners.

The AC is almost untouchable now because of the properties behind it, and there's not a lot you can do to the CE and the West.

Maybe you can fill in the SW corner over the access road to link with a new JS, and rebuild the police box into the new stand in the process, but far more likely is filling in the SE corner as it already has structure there, it will just need reimagining. The memorial garden would have to be moved then, and the big screen too.

All very far away in reality
  • No way can Memorial Garden be moved or tampered with - so many peoples ashes are scattered there, incl my dear old Dad !!!
  • I've never thought that we needed any more than 30000 anyway. Most "mid sized" clubs have a capacity between 25000 and 33000.

Are they getting rid of the fan zone already?

  • Well we fucked that up didn't we?

In true Charlton fashion, that final demotion from the Prem just before the silly silly silly money kicked in, and our subsequent implosion and free fall down the leagues put paid to any dreams of a larger Valley.  With it also now being in the cold lifeless grip of RD, i fear we cannot expect further development, nor will we need it even in the Championship.
