First defeat so no point being overly critical but the Ahadme and Campbell combo hasn't resulted in a goal in 4 games
And most are not surprised.
That's the worst performance that the two of them have put in and maybe I'm alone in this but I think any forward worth his salt would have put Campbell's first period half volley on target.
Bit of a reality check but it wasn’t that different to the first three games.
A wise old Llewelyn once said “goals change games”. If Berry had taken that excellent chance at the end of the first half then I think it would have been a different result and another “one nil to the Londoners”. Instead, we weren’t able to keep it water tight, like we have been, and, despite the momentum seeming to have swung our way second half, we conceded a bit or a worldy and had no answer after that.
The second goal was a poor one and I suspect a few will get a dressing down from NJ for that.
The lack of creativity in midfield, even as an option off the bench, remains the glaring flaw in the side. Some weeks it won’t matter because the hard work and pressing will give up chances in itself. When the press doesn’t do that, or we can’t take one of the relatively few chances that approach will yield, like today, we will look toothless.
A fully fit and firing Leaburn in for a willing but very limited looking Ahadme could make a big difference, but who knows how fast he can get back to his best, or even what his best still is after such a long layoff. Hopefully Dixon can be a bit of an x-factor too, but he’s another one who we can’t be sure how soon he’ll be ready.
In the meantime, expect more games like today, and lot of clean sheets both for us and the opposition.
Going from that post match interview with Nathan, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall, he is absolutely raging at our overall play, particularly regarding the second goal. Everyone was below par today for some reason, and I can see some very unhappy players after listening to Nathans rant, cos he would have been fuming. So maybe Rotherham next week, maybe not, I kinda got the feeling that Nathan would welcome the postponement, maybe in order to re educate some players in the way he expects us to play. We were a pale shadow of the first three games, against Bolton in particular, and basically Reading just outplayed us today, giving us no room and space, however we should have been able to overcome this, they ain't bloody Brazil ffs. So, be interesting to see how the next game goes, whenever that is because a repeat of today cannot be tolerated...
Just a sign that if we dip beyond our effort levels , we haven’t got a lot of quality
Not sure about that one wmc, I think if you look at the players who didn't start today then the quality is there to be brought in, Godden and Campbell for a start, add to that hopefully an October return for Leaburn and Edwards and it doesn't look that bad. I do take your point about the effort levels of some players though, I can't accuse Tyreece Campbell of not trying and he's not a player who gets stuck in, wouldn't be so sure about Josh Edwards replacement though.

We’ll beg to differ . It’s not a promotion squad - it’s a team that NJ has managed to get a lot out of , but has fallen short today . They are a good bunch - I regret saying that it’s to do with effort - but I do believe everything will have to go well for us to win games. We will win a lot of matches but I think we will fall short of the top 6. We will be lower if Nathan decides the grass is greener elsewhere and we could be higher if he stays and we find an x factor player
We should be beating Reading in their current predicament if we want to go up. Hopefully it is just a blip and we smash Rotherham next week. Can't see it though. It really does ruin my weekend when Charlton lose!
Should we?
They’ve lost 1 in 4. Now the same number as we have.
Yeah, we should be if we want to go up. They've lost players and only added Chem Campbell who didn't play.
Really flat performance, so disappointing....ironically we looked much better in the second half with Anderson's introduction having an impact. Sloppy in possession throughout....Reading looked much more comfortable on the ball.
Second goal killed the game....think Lloyd Jones was the only person in the stadium who thought it was a Charlton throw.
Campbell was full of energy as always but he isn't a striker and doesn't make the types of runs that strikers should (understandably). Given the wingbacks are adding so little going forward it might soon be time to consider a different formation which uses him in a natural position.
I had wondered to myself during the week how we'd react if we conceded, how we'd cope with going behind, as it was going to happen eventually.
Can our style of play, keeping it defensively tight and relying on opposition mistakes to create chances work when we go behind, and the pressure is on us to create something?
As much as I like an honest assessment to a shit performance…….thats a bit dramatic innit?
Nah, I like to see that in a manager, he takes defeat as badly as thousands of fans!
Absolutely love how pissed off Nathan is and that he mentioned the fans that travelled in numbers. If he gets us, and it hurts him, then the players will not be let off the hook.

Agree. That's the sort of response I would expect after a horrendous 5-0 defeat, not one where we have lost but hardly in a terrible way.
He should be a bit careful. Things went very wrong at Stoke and Southampton quite quickly. Piss too many people off with that sort of reaction and it could easily happen here.
“I know [why Charlton were not at it in the first-half] but I’m not going to say. I’ll deal with that moving forward.”
Intriguing.
What does he mean by that?
Intriguing...
On the assumption they were not out on the piss this week or getting cocky my guess (as that is all it can be) would be reaction to departures and non departures (and associated conversations) this week.

The second goal was horrendous and deserving of that kind of reaction IMO. The players know the standard and they know they fell short in that moment.
Get beat by a wonder strike, fair enough. Contribute to your own downfall by switching off, moaning at the ref and not getting back into shape is fair game.
To be fair, we brought in Godden to replace May. I think it's about time he started in place of TC, I reckon his nous will be more useful than Campbell's pace and we can always bring him on later when teams are tired. Campbell just doesn't have the awareness and experience as a striker yet to make the most of the scrappy way we play
You're going to get very bored of correcting that as the season goes on....
PWR and wasn't there and you're probably not going to want to hear this but we were absolute dog shit against Orient for the majority of the game. Went a bit easy on the piss the league sentiments after that
I’ve skimmed over this thread so not 100% on how anyone else is feeling but I’m over my initial disappointment, Jones seems to know what went wrong and isn’t particularly happy about it so I think we can expect a reaction next week.
9 Points and a +2 goal difference from four games is a decent return.
we could pick apart certain aspects of the team but it’s very early doors so while we aren’t quite running on all cylinders just yet we are running and I’m far happier with the team and club than I have been for years.
The coaching staff have got some serious thinking to do to get something out of Ahadme. He is not holding the ball up, Campbell is doing that better than he is, and apparently he thrives on crosses into the box, well he's wasting his time waiting for one of those. We are still crap at crossing a deadball and now the best crosser in the club has gone backwards, Thierry Small, there isn't much chance of him getting on the end of anything.
Poor from all today. Can’t believe it was same team who beat Bolton last week. Never at the races and Campbell is a real lazy player and plays too far off the Number 9. His touch is poor. But he wasn’t the only one poor from everyone today. But we’ve been ok so far so hopefully just a blip. Probably needs to cancel next weeks game to reset.
Campbell "a real lazy player"? Some shite on here that tales the biscuit. I see hermann has already answered you a lot better than i could. I hope you have the ability to clear the crap from your eyes, and develop your understanding of the game from other's view points, @Brown59

1st one, meh. Could of closed down better, but great strike from lily Savage.
2nd one...... my christ.... absolute shambles. NJ has every right to react how he did

Churchie 2 ?
Just kidding - but he is crap though.
