MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Bolton Wanderers : Saturday 24th August 2024 : KO 15: 00

Good afternoon one and all, and welcome to our first what I call proper kick off time...3pm on a Saturday...👍

So today we welcome Bolton Wanderers to The Valley in what I envisage will be a real test for our credentials this season, but at the same time confident that we will deliver again and get our hat trick of wins...what a start to the season that will be, sitting in the stands will be Kaheim Dixon, so  let's give him a huge Valley welcome...maybe with his new song...🎶
We will be without Josh Edwards following the injury he sustained against Leyton Orient last weekend, but Nathan Jones was happy to report that it is not as serious as first thought, so we all wish him well for a swift return I am sure...

Our history against the Trotters ain't too much to write home about, but we've won 29, lost 47 and the remaining 21 games have ended all square, our most recent encounter was a topsy-turvy affair in Greater Manchester in February, where we claimed a 3-3 draw in Nathan Jones’ third game in charge...

So here we go...

Thierry Small will make his first league start of the season in place of the injured Josh Edwards in this afternoon's game against Bolton Wanderers.

We are expected to once again start in a back three with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey playing in front of goalkeeper Will Mannion.

Kayne Ramsay and Small will operate as wing backs, with Greg Docherty, Conor Coventry and last weekend’s match-winner Luke Berry playing in a midfield three behind a front two of Tyreece Campbell and Gassan Ahadme.

Charlton: Mannion; A Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Ramsay, Berry, Coventry, Docherty, Small; Ahadme, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Watson, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, Godden, Aneke, Kanu
