International Break (September 1st-9th) Rotherham(H) Saturday 7th September 2024

With the first set of International break commencing in just over two weeks time how likely is it that we will receive the required 3 call-ups to have the option to reschedule our home fixture with Rotherham on Saturday September 7th?

Leading to the question-which squad members are likely to be away on duty?

Anderson🇯🇲
Maynard-Brewer🇦🇺
Kanu🇸🇱?

I could see the game being played with Anderson and Kanu missing as Berry probably starts if he has continued in the same form as against Orient and we are not short of forward options even without Kanu. If we have not added to our Goalkeeping department by this time and have the option to postpone the fixture, it may be the safe option without a ‘senior’ back up keeper in reserve if AMB is away with Australia.

All being said, Jones may indeed want to go ahead and play regardless if we are still on a positive run of results after Bolton and our trip to Reading.

Dixon as likely to get called up as Anderson.

Asiimwe too if he's still here.

Also, how many internationals do Rotherham have?
  • Jones may not have a choice.

If Rotherham have three call ups themselves, they can request the game be postponed without any need for Charlton to approve that request.

I can't remember where I read it recently.
But someone in authority said we had 2 and Rotherham had 0 so the game would go ahead.
Personally I'm not so sure and wouldn't be booking anything either way.

They aren’t likely to want it played midweek in the winter unless they have loads of injuries. I have a feeling it will go ahead .
  • Same as @Covered End
I read somewhere, that someone spoke to someone in the know who said Rotherham have no prospects for call-up and we have 2, so the game is likely to go ahead. Mr Bolloxbolder in The Josh Edwards thread:

    MartinCAFC said:
Assuming the Rotherham game gets called off for international call ups (Anderson, Dixon, Kanu, AMB, anyone else?) then maybe we could be looking at the week afterwards at Shrewsbury 14th Sep which would only mean 2 league games missed potentially, maybe 3 if another week’s needed.
Rodwell and Elliott were in the Pelton Arms on Saturday evening. Rodwell said he felt the Rotherham game would go ahead as they were likely to have no one missing and us only 2.

Yes, a decision may well be made by Rotherham. I was looking at it more from our side. If we met the 3 player threshold and he did have a choice.
  • Yes this is what Rodwell said to my friend on Saturday. He may be wrong, but he definitely said it.
  • AMB isn't playing so won't get into the Aussie team anytime soon.

Kanu and Anderson most likely, Dixon they can't think about until he's officially signed and I imagine Asiimwe is off on loan
  • I think we will have the 3 of Kanu, Anderson and Dixon. Whether Jones decides that’s enough to call it off probably depends on what the squad looks like come the end of the window.
  • Remember last year Jones didn’t want games postponed and I’d imagine that hasn’t changed. None of those who will be off on international duty could be described as key players so I’d expect us to keep them on where we can

Over the four international breaks through the entirety of last season, only 11 L1 games were not postponed - an average of 2.75 games per weekend.

I think it’s safer to work on the assumption that it will get postponed. I’d rather it wasn’t but there’s a very high likelihood that it will.

I wonder if it’s cheaper to buy two half pints in there….

Also got Edwards to factor in as well, if the game gets called off it may get re-arranged a few weeks later at a time when he may be available again.
