I like that those versions aren’t so obviously telegraphed from a timeline point of view. I also like that there’s a load more brief clips of fans, young and old.

If there’s one adjustment I’d make for the new version it’s that. This one builds up so nicely with all the historic moments and then feels like it may as well finish with a scrappy goal of some bloke’s backside to salvage a point against Port Vale.

The drone footage of the Valley to start is a brilliant addition though.
  • Crap music but The Valley looks far too good for L1. Let’s hope it’s an omen.
  • That's played before every home game on the big screen and has been for a while. Love it.

It’s not that crazy. Alfie was a great striker in a terrible time, I hope it’s all over soon.

    Alfie who?

     ;)
  • The New version of This is The Valley is really well edited, the new drone footage and captions create a strong opening. It's a heady montage of Charlton's best memories from evocative black and white footage of Sam Batrum, 1947 Cup winners through to 1998 play offs, Prem years, 2019 play offs. Sadly League One footage fails to reach the heady heights as well frankly how can it, with single wide angle camera footage, sparser crowds and few close-ups of players etc, the editor must have struggled to capture the last 4 seasons. Nathan Jones showing his passion to the covered end however is a great ending to the film. Well done to the editor & production team.
It also for me a film which covers my families support for the Addicks. My fathers first game was in 1945 where he meet Jimmy Seed and Sam Bartram & the team before and after the match, his mother was friends with the Gliksten family. My first game in 1970 and my son's in 2005, May 2025 will be 160 yrs combined years supporting the Addicks. My father will be 89yrs old also in May 2025, I'm really hoping we will end the season promoted back to the Championship and the editor will have lots of great new footage to edit a grand finale for the 2025/26 season.
Missing the Simonsen goal - proud he played for us
