Absolutely no one should rush to the first few pages of the Ben Watson signed thread to check their initial reaction when we signed an experienced central midfielder from a higher level… :-)

Why does it work with some signings, signing players over 30, and others it’s a complete disaster?
Desire, settling in the area, or just the fact there legs have gone, how can you make that judgement call that it’s going to work out, before you sign them?

Cawley has put up an article on his website about Berry, but as I am on my phone I cannot copy it. If anyone else is interested to copy over

You can see why Jones likes to have him around. Plenty of experience, knows (and trusts) the "Jones Method" and seems to have a decent head on his shoulders. Generally a good bloke to have about the place even without his goal contribution today.
But if this isn't the year his legs mysteriously vanish, a brilliant signing
Oh no! Who could have possibly fucking seen this coming?
Hasn't set the world alight but nowhere near the levels of Arter and Watson. Also scored 2 goals which is 1 more than Arter and Watson combined for us.
Far too soon to be trying to say I told you so and very weird to be trying to do so this early in the season.
I’m still finding it hard to judge some of our players, especially midfielders - our style doesn’t give them a chance to play. We’re not missing good chances, or misplacing passes, we’re pumping the ball long and chasing after it.

Whenever berry does get the ball he usually does something with it. Unfortunately we aren’t able to play any progressive passes into our midfielders and he instead watches the ball be passed around our back 5 and then hoofed over his head
If the ball isn't being played through them, then they need to be finding a way to support the others either by pushing right up to support attack, or dropping to support defence.
The midfielders should be marking players on the edge of the box on dead balls and pressing the loose men when the ball is in open play. Instead they seem to try to hold it, hold it, hold it then press the man, allowing space to open up.
Our marking and pressing seems constantly mistimed.
Every single midfielder was a disgrace this evening. I've never seen so many players in one side bottle so many challenges. We lost every 50/50 and second ball challenge
