Danny Murphy talks about his career and clubs.

Sorry, but using my phone and there's no option to search for old existing threads to share this.

Came across this interview recently and although I don't like the fella, I sat through this video to hear what he had to say about us. I must say, I was shocked at his revelations

What does he say about us, to save myself 2 hours?!
The gear from The Barnfiled was shite.
  • Danny Murphy is a cunt.
    Good name for a podcast
The podcast could be about anything and it’d still work

A scouser lying again....who wound have thunk it (or just mis-remembering ?)

Tried skipping through to hear what he had to say about us but not easy finding that part of it.

However, I did listen to the but about him regretting leaving Liverpool & he said he wasnt given long to decide as he had 3 clubs offering him a deal and the transfer window was closing soon.

Just googled the facts because I distinctly remembering him joining us & it was well before the deadline  (joined the same time as Jeffers ??) and according to the BBC he joined us on Aug 10th when a deal from Spurs fell through.

Is this a windup... I just listened to it and I could swear he didn't say anything about Charlton

I refer you to my post at 4:11
  • No mention of Charlton, but I’m not surprised

In fairness, he speaks eloquently about post career, bad financial advice, his kids, his addictions, his recovery

At the end of the day, it’s obvious the only club he wanted to play for was Liverpool - fair enough

I can’t get excited that he played for Charlton - he is not even a footnote for me - didn’t pull up any trees for us

We have had far better players than him play for us, in fact way better

My View. Can't be arsed to listen to podcast. He was ok in a Liverpool but not great. He has good other players around him. He only ever wanted to join Spurs but that deal fell through so went to one of the other clubs left on the table.  He turned up at Charlton and every game he played in for us, looked like a kid with a strop. He was the "big eye I am. I played for Liverpool. Now I am at Charlton and I don't really want to be here". He spent most of the time with his hands on his hips like he couldn't be bothered and couldn't wait to leave in January. I was glad when he left. At least when Barnes came, he at least tried but he was at the end of his career and didn't have a lot of pace.
Don't forget that his wife was upset that when they were at Charlton they no longer received invites to film premiers!!!!
    Yes, I forgot about that.
  • I remember being slightly disappointed with him. My misguided reasoning, I genuinely thought we were on the up signing a Liverpool / Englandish player and we would kick on with more of the same.  He clearly had bigger ambitions than Charlton, although those ambitions were a bit like my own. Lacked the ability to realise them.
Looking back I think he would have preferred to play with "Stevie G"  but obviously was not good enough. Us being the in London and a Prem club left him and his ego with little choice at that time.

His wife, who was in holyoaks ffs, moaned about not getting invited to movie premieres then he gets himself sent off against arsenal. I think he was already talking to spurs as the window opened a week after he got himself sent off.

    pair of c***s
  • Murphy was pretty nothingy in his first season for us but I do remember him being very good the next year. 4 goals and 8 assists off 15 games, player of the month in September and talk of him being called up to the England squad again. Smertin gave him a lot more space to play and in Darren Bent he had someone to put away the chances he'd started creating regularly. The annoying thing is that immediately after actually showing he was a footballer he was demanding to leave and I think we took a loss on his sale somehow as well.

And then he didn't really play much at Spurs anyway.

  • Bloke is a knob with an ego in excess of his talent.
  • And his missus ended up leaving him  :D
  • It says a lot that he was at Spurs for just short of 18 months and I don't really remember any meaningful contribution from him.

    22 games 1 goal.

Up against the likes of Jenas, Huddlestone, Edgar Davids, Teemu Teemu Tainio, Hossam Ghaly and not to forget the Charlton Legend that is Johnnie Jackson.

I watched a lot of Spurs back then, as I lived with my best mate who was a Spurs fan. I distinctly remember enjoying a run of his, where they lost any game he appeared in. I think it took him ages to notch a first victory.
  • Tell me if I’m wrong, but was it Murphy who played the ball through to Dennis Rommedahl for the last minute winner at Palace?

I loved the free kick he scored against Spurs to be fair! What a night… packed ground… yet another win over spurs… great atmos… and it all felt so effing normal.
