Our record attendance

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but I have only ever seen still images of our record attendance match with Villa before..
https://www.britishpathe.com/asset/167851/

And here is the replay at Villa Park..
https://www.britishpathe.com/asset/116782/

And the second replay at Highbury..
https://www.britishpathe.com/asset/116754/

I could be wrong, but I think the aggregate attendances for the three games is a record for round 5.

75,031 at the Valley 1-1
61,530 at Villa Park 2-2
64,783 at Highbury 1-4 (we played a chunk of the game with 10 men)

  • Not seen that before, thanks.

Not sure the "1971 league cup final" on the same site is accurate though .....https://www.britishpathe.com/asset/125927/
  • 73,925 in 1935 from memory.

That’s one hell of a memory, Old Timer.

At least his memory isn’t short.
  • Didn't over 200,000 attend the 7-6 against Huddersfield, according to testimony?!?

I think you’re thinking of Huddersfield’s incredible run of 735 games unbeaten if you exclude games they lost.
  • It’s crazy to think of 75,000+ at the Valley. It’s ~50% more than we had at Wembley for the playoff finals.

I bet the urinals were a fun place to be.
  • The Who played at the Valley 50 years ago today in front of 80 thousand people
  • The official attendance at the first league at the Valley was given as 68k but reports gave it as 80k.

We've looked for but never found official evidence of it being higher than the Villa 75,031 gate but in both cases it is likely some people bunked in.
