Birmingham sign midfielder Willum Thor Williamson from Go Ahead Eagles for a reported fee of £5m.
If the fee is true, I find it disturbing that kind of money is now being spent on one player in league one. Obviously only one club currently doing it, but that's where it starts. Seems like a crazy fee for third division.
I read somewhere, their owner has stated a 20M budget for the season.

it sounds an impressive number but I guess it all comes down to what that budget covers

As I have already mentioned before but some didn’t seem to like. I have been told by agents that Wrexham have a similar budget to Brum

Do you mean in terms of his management capability? Certainly been crap in the championship.

Lincoln sign goalkeeper George Wickens from Fulham , 4 year deal. Looks like he's the Jensen replacement.

I've seen the fee listed as €4m for him and €4.2m for the centre back Klarer, which are the 2 highest ever fees at this level. Overall their summer spend so far is €13.5m which is just over £11m.

They're clearly taking the approach of not just building a side to get them out of league one, but one that can then be competitive in the championship next season.

Which doesn't seem to have worked out particularly well for them so far. Three signings and all look good but they need a lot more before they are properly competitive.

Suspect that they have started to find out they are no longer the biggest fish in the pond.

Woops. Stand corrected thank you. Even so none of that makes me think they are likely to be up there for promotion honestly.

Maybe planning on going for loans and the best of those will become available later in the window when teams get a better view of who their first choice squad is and who they don’t need for a while

I expected a bit more from Wrexham , Okonkwo,Dobbo and Brunt are good signings for this level but I expected a "statement" signing by now from them.

Interesting that he is described as a Right Back who can play centre back or midfield. I guess he's accepted the fact that now that RB is his main position!

    Pigott, Pratley, Clare, Jaiyesimi...

The complete opposite to the point I was making 😀

We surely have to finish above them.
  • NJ says that if the deals are easy then they're no good. I saw Rotherham play at Stamford Friday evening. They put out a strong team.  I wasn't impressed.

Surely they are going to be in a relegation position.  All their best players last year were loanees - none of whom are back this year and they replaced them with a bunch or our rejects.

Leyton trying to usurp Cambridge as the prime dumping ground for our old players. Colchester also trying with Taylor and Payne (sounds like an Essex law firm)

A lot of business done. Lincoln and Crawley appear to have had their best players pinched and require a significant rebuild.

Birmingham mean business but will be the scalp in the division so will be playing 46 cup
    finals.

8 goals in 3 seasons. Something tells me his 20 goal season was the exception not the rule

This is from Transfermarkt. It's also a bit out of date as they signed a centre back since which again broke the record.

Yep, they've gone and spent another £4m since then, and rumours circling that they'll break it again on Stansfield.

Stansfield would be a ridiculous signing for this level. I know he's 21 and not really broken through at Fulham yet but for him to leave on a permanent to a League 1 side would be staggering.

Fancy going round the whole world and ending up in Birmingham.

It's getting to the point where I feel that somewhat weirdly but it's probably really better if Birmingham do get promoted. Yes them somehow fucking it up would be tremendous schadenfreude but having them hanging around in L1 chucking sums like this around would distort the market for teams that can't/won't ever match that.

It would be very damaging in the long run IMO, yes Birmingham would probably go down in flames but the fire would spread.
