I have watched every game on line this season (thanks Charlton TV) and enjoyed it all 100%. And I am looking forward to next season after Nathan's revamp of...well how many players? But today Connor Wickham showed he is a better option than Chucks Aneke : OK neither seems historically to be able to stay fit for long but with a hard working close season Wickham could, from what we have seen briefly, show that he is equal to if not better than Chucks whose contribution at Cambridge was...NIL. Will he get a contract? His goal was premier league quality.
My point is a 6ft 2 defender the taking corners speaks volumes on our lack of quality. He should be on the end of them.
Tbf last season he was taking corners for Plymouth on some occasions, and they went up as champs.
I do however see your point though, we lack the players who are dead ball specialists who should be taking these set pieces instead. It's a bit risky having a centre back taking a corner.
For me Gillesphy taking corners says everything about how poor Coventry has been so far. He is the one dropped from corner duty, and I am not surprised. So far he must be the most disappointing/underwhelming signing for a long time such was the hype around him. I hope he improves and expect him to once we play a more passing game.

Not quite the transformative player he was sold to be, and certainly not fit to be a Dobbo replacement at this point. But I feel like he's at least got potential.
It was a nice afternoon out, except for the football. My god we were crap. I expected so much more. A real end of season game from us, and the lack of quality on the ball was horrid.
Why is REG, a central defender, taking corners? Isn't he one of our taller players? Don't we have a more gifted, creative player to take them? I found that strange.
The whole defense, including keeper, need to be severely assessed if they are good enough for next season, for me, they're not. But we can't change them all out unfortunately, due to contracts. A keeper is definitely needed. Hector and Thomas can go too.
I feel NJ mixed it up with the 3 changes, to get a better look at players, and he said in his post match interview he's getting a clear picture who will be in a Charlton short next year.
Teenagers slapping each other for a few seconds outside the ground like petulant school kids summed up the game really. All a bit pathetic and meh.
The only really shining light was watching the game with @Fanny Fanackapanand her family, always such a pleasure Jean, Thank you.
ALWAYS a joy to see you, oz but wish you had been able to watch a more entertaining game .

Coventry's best game was his debut, I thought he played quite well. But he's been bang average ever since.
Dobson put through the pass for Wickham's goal. Dobson put through the pass for May to hit the post.
Coventry got caught on the wrong side for their goal. Thomas didn't close down Bonne to stop the shot. Hector turned his back & got out of the way of Bonne's shot. Isted got 2 hands to the ball and still couldn't stop the shot, which he definitely should have.
Not having the Coventry bashing for their goal. If this is being “caught wrong side” then I don’t know what to tell you…
He’s absolutely on the right side when the pass is played. It took a bit of skill and muscle to get past him and even then, he muscles his way back in to make sure the forward has to turn back away from goal.
At that point, whatever led up to that, Coventry has done his job. The ball is forced loose and is up for grabs. Thomas has to be more aggressive as the big centre back and whack it clear. No idea why TT is being so passive - he had a couple of opportunities and didn’t take either of them.
Not a great look for Hector to be turning but, like Coventry, far from the worst offence I’ve ever seen.
And then Isted has to save that. It bounced in front of him which makes it more difficult than if it had gone straight along the ground but even so…
I can’t wait for the season where we are finally back up there competing for promotion and doing the double over most of these. Had enough of the fans of Cambridge, Burton, Morecambe, Port Vale and all the other chuff we keep dropping points to.
It’s going to be so satisfying when we are in a place where we’re beating these by 2 or 3 home and away.
NJ sounded really unhappy about their goal, and I don't blame him. Watching it back on the Cambridge twitter, there were several opportunities for defenders to stick it up on the roof of the stand and no-one did. Very, very disappointing given how few chances they had in the game.
We need to improve further if we're going to be in the mix for the playoffs or better next season. But we already knew that
V frustrating especially letting Bonne score. But before we beat ourselves up too much - didn’t QPR pay us something like £2M for him? In which case we’re not the biggest mugs.

Doesnt help that Coventry was on a booking from the first half, had already been given his final warning, so was doing his utmost not to foul him
I don't really care about our style of play, I just want us to win. If you take a step back and look at the stats, they were winning stats. Not nicking a win stats but comfortably winning stats. There are two things preventing wins when that happens. Not enough goals in the team and giving away soft goals. I think there is a link between the two, as when you have a slender lead, it does put more pressure on the defence.
I agree with Jones in his after match interview. Forgetting if you liked the way we played, we have lost 8 points we shouldn't have to Northampton, Fleetwood, Wigan and yesterday to Cambridge. It doesn't matter this season but it will for next. He knows it and will sort it out I'm sure. But given recent years, please lets not us be too critical or precious about our style of play. Winning football is the be all and end all of what we need.
There's a lot of nitpicking going on. Ultimately, someone had a snapshot from 25 yards (and no, this Hector disrespect has to end, he didn't 'get out of the way', it went past or through his legs which didn't move) and our keeper threw it into his own net
I have never seen a professional football team quite so inept at defending long throw ins.
I think it is easier to defend these when you have a dominant keeper. Isted has qualities but he is not that by a large distance. In all honesty, nor is AMB.
Jones has done wonders with the players we have. Goalkeeping - weak. Defense - fragile. Attacking Midfield - weak. These are the areas that need the improvement in my opinion.
There is a fact about the defence that is just as important as letting in soft goals. It never scores. That is an issue. You can't have one or two players on the pitch that you over rely on. You need goals from your defence and midfield as well as your attack. Not as many of course but you need them all the same.

But winning games of football often coincide with how you play. Just hoofing the ball forwards may lead to a goal on occasions but it isnt going to give you the 2 or 3 goals you need to win. Again, passing the ball around the back isnt always going to lead to letting in a goal, but as Burnley have shown over the past 2 weeks it can seriously add to your problems.
Get a team playing good football, with a set system & style of play and I have no doubt they will be winning more games than they lose (or draw, as it is currently in our case)
Was at the match yesterday. I thought in the first half that a second goal would have killed the game as Cambridge looked very average. Unfortunately the second goal was not forthcoming and then the inevitable happened and Bonne scored the equaliser. For the first time in years I went by coach to avoid having to change at Royston and get a bus, only to find some idiot had smashed on of our coach windows as we were waiting to leave after the match. The driver was on the phone to his company to see if he was allowed to drive back or wait for a replacement coach. Fortunately we left about 30 minutes later than Planned. Only 2 games left in what has been a very depressing season ( I shall be at both ). Looking forward to having a break away from Charlton and recharging my enthusiasm for what I hope is a much better season next year.

Hopefully he'll kick on next term under Jones and hopefully a decent side as he's come into a poor team so hopefully he'll come good.
At least you got to meet the snake....

Now we must have the record for conceding most goals to ex-players.
Impressive.
