SKY agrees new deal with EFL

  • Obviously no idea how this information is in my head but I can name 5 websites where it’s easy to watch matches for free if you’re happy to miss the first 5 minutes or so. I suspect lots of people have the same knowledge they’re just unlikely to be on forums due to their age
  • The club will make more money off the Sky deal than they do for CAFC TV so doubt they’ll care. Annoying for fans (like myself) who can’t get to many games though.
  • The trouble with everything now going through Sky is the cost. I have the full Sky TV package and broadband, the cost in Mar 23 was £98pm, which at a stretch I could just about afford. It went up to £108pm in May 23, which I complained about, but they offered me a small discount to keep me as a customer. Now it's going up to £125pm (@ 26% increase in 14 months). I contacted them last Friday and asked what deals they had as I couldn't afford this, and as a long standing customer I was considering cancelling the whole lot. The answer I got back was, "this is what you need to do if you wish to cancel"! So with sky having the cartel on most of domestic football and test cricket and golf, I can either cancel or go without some of the package . I have 2 multi room boxes, so Mrs RM can watch her films and Netflix etc on the main TV in the lounge and I watch my sports in the bedroom. With a period of convalescing coming up for me for the next 6 months I rely on my sports, especially CATV to keep me going! I pay my £10 per match by the way, so I'm not robbing the club!
So if  CATV goes  and I cancel Sky I'm stuffed and it'll be unfair on Mrs RM if I cancel what she likes to watch as well. Sky are taking more and more of domestic sports, the Beeb arnt showing Masters highlights anymore...where is this going to stop!
Rant over and I feel there will be a big loss with the excellent production of  CATV!

Are you in contract or is your 18 month contract about to expire?

If you're nearly out of contract phone again but this time insist you want to speak to their retention section. I'd be amazed if they don't offer you a deal.

@Fortune 82nd Minute  Contract finishes in 3 weeks. I'll call them again during the week.
    Cheers

  • Same here, RM.

Intend to make that call later this week so will let you know how I get on.

Already practising my quavery, old lady voice to hopefully aid the process !

If they don't offer you a good enough deal then tell them you'd like to cancel.

Call there bluff as they will call you back in probably 2-3 weeks time with a better offer than before.

  • It’s quite likely that I am way behind the curve on this, but someone please explain to me how a Firestick enables you to pick up a broadcast which I suppose is entirely “closed”, which the studio part surely is. I get that the live game action may escape into the wild because it may be part of the IFollow coverage, but not our studio stuff, nobody else can see that, surely?
The person/company providing the stream will be subscribing legally to the content and then they will mirror it to a server and then your dodgy app/website can pick up that content. So yes, someone somewhere is legally subscribing to charlton tv and then putting it on a server for others to watch.

I cancelled 18 months ago as it was getting close to £100 a month, kept getting emails/texts with various offers, in the end got back what I had cancelled for about £70 a month.

My contract runs out end of May so see what they offer, if no good then I'll cancel again and see what they come up with.

I’ve heard those guys don’t actually watch the feeds but subscribe to the XG stats website and watch live updates of the pivot tables….

It will stop if people stop subscribing.

I can’t fathom how anyone would pay out for all this. As far as football is concerned there is over 4 hours a week on terrestrial TV . Being bed-ridden or very old aside, I don’t see how or why people watch so much.
